Principal's Message
Dear O.H. Anderson Students and Families,
At OHA, we have spent the past month teaching, practicing, and reteaching behavior expectations and routines. The expectations to be respectful, responsible, and give everyone the right to learn are important to make OHA a safe and fun school. These behaviors are expected at school, at recess, on the bus, and in the community. This is what it means to be a Zephyr.
We believe students need to be acknowledged for doing the right thing.
We acknowledge students with positive comments, shoutouts on our daily news, the Good News Phone Calls, and the ticket bowl challenge.
The Good News Phone call is used when staff members want to celebrate a great demonstration of our Zephyr Values or an academic achievement. Students get to call home to share the good news and families get to celebrate with us. Students also get some treats.
On Oct. 3rd we will begin our ticket bucket challenge. We will give tickets to students who are being respectful, responsible, and giving others the right to learn. We will be working together as a team to fill the bucket for an all-school celebration. A draft of our celebrations is pictured but Student Council will provide input as well. Each week tickets are chosen for the OHA Wall of Fame, prizes, and special events such as basketball with the principal, decorating windows, and more.
Thank you for partnering with us to be unstoppable with behaviors and learning.
Take care of yourself, your family, and each other.
Important dates and information you need to know this week
Celebrations- We ask that families do not bring in food or other items to pass out for birthdays or other celebrations.
Halloween- Halloween falls on a Monday this year. Please know that at WW and OHA students do not wear costumes to school. Also, please do not send candy. We want to maintain our routines at WW and OHA.
WIN Groups- We had data days and are determining small groups for
What I Need Time. Some of the groups began on Sept. 26th and some will begin on Oct. 24. You will receive a letter on the first day of the group to share what we are working on to meet your child’s personalized needs.
Safe Routes to School- This week we have been collecting data on how students come to school and go home each day. This will be used as a data point in our safe routes to school planning team.
Emergency Protocols- At OHA we have been practicing the standard set of protocols we use to ensure our staff and students know how to respond to different emergencies. These protocols are based on five emergency categories and are outlined below.
Click the video orvia this link for a description of each emergency category.

Important Items for families to do this week
Read- Our goal is to read for 20 minutes at home each night. This can be reading aloud together or silent reading. Look for the at-home reading folder for a book your child can and wants to read each night. Check out the research to support reading at home.
Tickets- Next week, ask your child if they earned aticket and what they did to earn it. Take time to celebrate them for doing the right thing and doing their best work at school
Going Home- Please make plans with your child about how they are going home each day and put them in writing. Remember students may not ride different bus routes due to capacity and liability reasons.
Drills- Ask your child what their job is when we have an evacuation or lockdown drill.
Bus- Review bus expectations and logical consequences with your child.
