Cooking With Local Produce Workshop

We're helping to spread the word about a neat event organized by the Guilford Farm-to-School program - happening this weekend! We hear that there are still a few spots left. But please register ASAP.

When: Saturday, October 1, 10:00am - noon
Where: Guilford Central School (374 School Road Guilford, VT)
Cost: Free!

Vermont Garden Network is driving down from Burlington with their very cool mobile classroom (a retrofitted van that has an induction stove kitchenette, an awning, collapsible tables & benches, free seeds, and educational resources for various workshops). They're providing us with a free 2 hour hands-on cooking workshop that will cover cooking on a budget with seasonal veggies, as well as the nutritional benefits of eating fresh produce.

We will make lunch together and all participants will get recipes and probably some fun seeds or other party favors! Everyone is welcome and it's free! Please join us!

Celebrate the BBCC & Make Cider With Us!

When: Saturday, October 22, 2:00pm - 5:30pm
Where: Broad Brook Community Center (3940 Guilford Center Road Guilford, VT)
Cost: Free!

Join us as we help celebrate the reopening of the Broad Brook Community Center (BBCC) after major renovations. Neighborhood Roots will be moving into the BBCC in November to run the Guilford Food Hub.

We will be at opening day with our apple cider press  🍎 - so please stop by, say "hi!" and make/sip some cider with us! There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, an apple pie social, and contra dance, too.

-----
The Guilford Food Hub is an expansion of our tiny pilot local food buying group that we've been running for the past two years. We will distribute local produce and products direct from several Guilford farms and from Brattleboro's Food Connects food hub. This will be a convenient way for everyone in Guilford to access local food. We accept SNAP/EBT, and will offer a pay-what-you-want food shelf on pickup days, too. Individual orders are placed online (biweekly) a few days ahead, then picked up at the BBCC on Wednesdays. It's a lot like an online farmers market!

If you'd like to stay in the loop about our biweekly local food market, and want to be put on a "waiting list" to join in the fall, you can do that here: https://bit.ly/3sXW9rp. If you have any questions, get in touch!

Little Free Pantries: It's Getting Cold ❄

The Guilford Little Free Pantries (LFPs) have been getting a lot of use since their installation last winter - and people have been donating generously. It's so wonderful to see how our community has embraced this project! Thank you!

With autumnal temperatures here, keep in mind that cold-weather donations should take into account freezing temperatures (nothing in glass) - some suggested items are: bagged beans, grains, pasta, and cereal; peanut butter and jelly in plastic bottles; crackers and snacks; dried fruit; granola bars; toilet paper and personal care items like toothbrushes, diapers, feminine products, warm socks and gloves.

There are two LFPs in town - one at the Up the Road Farm farmstand near the corner of Weatherhead Hollow and Guilford Center Road, and another at the Guilford Center Natural Playscape on Carpenter Hill Road. NRFC was inspired to build these by the national Little Free Pantry movement, a mutual aid effort to increase community and neighborhood resiliency.
To support the work of Neighborhood Roots Food Collective, please make a tax-deductible donation. Click the link below to donate via Paypal, or mail a check to 1917 E Mountain Rd. Guilford, VT 05301. Thank you!
