I just returned to Colorado after spending a week in Indiana teaching at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking. Finishing expert, Jeff Jewitt of Homestead Finishing Products, and I taught a class in high gloss spray finishing for instruments. We had 16 instruments to finish and only five days to do it! We decided to use a catalyzed urethane for the finish product and this allowed us to do it in such a short period of time. We taught how to do surface prep, spray the finish and then how to level and buff to a high gloss on a buffer. Jeff also did a demonstration on how to do a professional sunburst finish using Transtint dyes. We even showed how to do a simple pore filling technique using materials that most already have in their shops. This was a very popular class and we will be offering it again next year July 10-16. Jeff and I both are expecting this class to fill quickly.
For those that were not able to attend this year's class you can get Jeff's Urethane Finishing Online Course available at the Lutherie Academy.  You can even get it at a 10% discount for the next FIVE DAYS ONLY.  Just use promo code URETHANE at checkout.
