The bus driver shortage during the 2021-22 school year had a serious impact on Lane’s cluster program. While there have been improvements for the current school year, problems still remain. CPS is required to provide transportation to students who need it to access special education, and in order to meet this need they have hired new drivers and offered stipends for families who prefer to self-transport. However, the lack of bus drivers is still prevalent, meaning that some bus routes still have changed, and students and their families cannot always depend on CPS to help. Managing Editor Ruby Thompson has more on the current outlook for Cluster Program transportation at Lane.

In one of their closest games yet this season, Lane’s football team advanced to 5-0 on Saturday, as they defeated Whitney Young 24-15. The team scored early and continued fighting back even when Young threatened their lead. Despite the victory, the team and coaches recognize the need to improve to be competitive moving forward. Editor-In-Chief Alex Burstein has more on the rivalry game.

“Through the decisions we make, we can write a new ending to this segment of history where a lack of empathy has become an insurmountable hurdle to necessary change. With opportunities for widespread communication more available than ever, we can actively create a world where people are connected by understanding,” Editor-In-Chief Saskia McDonogh Mooney writes in her love letter to storytelling.
