Faith in Action Bay Area Leaders
Host Large-Scale Candidate Forum
For Redwood City City Council
Leader Clara Jaeckel presents the Faith in Action credential, including our voter engagement efforts and congregations in Redwood City.

Thank you to all who attended our informative candidate forum for Redwood City City Council, hosted by Faith in Action Bay Area leaders of Redwood City. We had nearly 150 people attend our hybrid in-person/virtual meeting, with 80 people attending in person. In the two weeks leading up to the event, 22 Faith in Action Bay Area leaders called thousands of Redwood City residents in our network to invite them to attend the forum. This was an opportunity to reach out again to the neighbors we have been conversing with for the past two years.

The forum was attended by five of the six candidates running for City Council. Our leaders posed thoughtful questions to the candidates about their decisions to run for Council, how candidates would protect Redwood City residents from displacement, harassment, and eviction, and how candidates would address the inequalities in the city that have been exacerbated during the pandemic.

All candidates committed to listening and collaborating with Faith in Action Bay Area leadership on shared goals.

*New* Faith in Action Bay Area Video!
"Improving Living Conditions
And Keeping Renters Home in Redwood City"
"We could all live so peacefully here. People wouldn't need to leave our community of Redwood City. It's such a beautiful place to live, and it's where the work is."
Watch our video to learn about the need for urgent and systemic changes and the city level to prevent displacement! Faith in Action leaders share their vision of being able to live in a safe, dignified way in the city that they love and work in. They tell their stories of harassment, lack of repairs, and unjust eviction. They outline what needs to change in Redwood City and their collective work to secure meaningful protections, such as an anti-harassment ordinance and an office at the City of Redwood City that will enforce our rights.

We continue to support Elizabeth, who shares her story in the video, as she faces an eviction for a renovation, even as un-permitted construction has begun on the property. You can see news coverage here of the prayer vigil we held in August.

Please reach out to Nani (nani@faithinactionba.org) to connect about ways to support Elizabeth stay housed such as a letter-writing campaign.
