Update from our Board of Directors

Happy fall to everyone!

The board of directors held the Annual Owner Meeting on August 13th at the MARC patio.

The election results were announced with Emily Stock and Jonny Jew each being re-elected to 3 year terms on the board. The third board seat was won by Kendra Cupps.

The Moonflower Board of Directors made a decision to expand the board to 8 members to include incumbent board member Alison Anders. This decision was based on the need for continuity, to encourage longevity of board members and to maintain a strong board to meet any future challenges.

Emily, the board president, started the meeting with a review of the 2021 year. Jonny, our treasurer, was out of town fighting wildfires, so Josie, our secretary, stepped in to give the financial report. Shane, our general manager, also gave a store report.

The year 2021 was a very good year for the co-op. This allowed us to fully pay off our remodel loan, leaving the co-op with virtually no debt. Moonflower was able to pay out significant profit sharing bonuses to all the employees for 2021. Moonflower also increased staff wages.

The meeting was very interactive between owners and board with new ideas and suggestions brought forth. Shane, our general manager, was acknowledged for doing a great job at the store. As always, the food prepared by the Moonflower Datura Deli was delicious. Five lucky owners were the winners of the door prizes that were given away.

Thanks to all who attended and to everyone who helped put together the meeting.

Just a reminder, the Board of Directors will now be meeting at 5:30pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the MARC patio.

Seeds to Start Grant Report from the Resiliency Hub

Our spring 2021 Seeds to Start Grant recipient, the Resiliency Hub, recently sent us a wonderful report of what they were able to accomplish with the help of our $1000 grant over the last year. The goal of their project was “to improve our CommuniTea Garden project, to boost the productivity of this public garden, increase the capacity of existing growing space, and provide education on perennial edible plants and rainwater catchment systems.”

The Resiliency Hub purchased native plants, plant propagation equipment, rainwater harvesting infrastructure, paint for their rainwater educational mural, and advertising for educational programs they hosted at the garden. The CommuniTea Garden is a community-accessible green space and permaculture-inspired pocket park on 100 West. Check out the new improvements and read the full grant report here!
