Sept. 15, 2022
Dear VCS Parents and Friends,

This week, I want am going to detour from the “my Jesus” theme just a bit to talk about a world event that took place this late this past week and a world event commemoration.

Late last week Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II passed away. The people of the U.S.A. do not understand the concept of a monarch ruling the land. Of course, for almost of the Queen’s reign – 70 years, she had
very little political authority. Nevertheless, she had much influence on the direction of the Commonwealth. After the Queen’s death, there were a few YouTube clips surfacing where she makes a profession of faith in Christ. What struck me about the professions is the lack of “passing the torch of faith” to her progeny. When you look at her children and children’s children, there isn’t much evidence, at least publicly, that Christ is at the forefront of their lives.

Then I thought about VCS and its role in helping families “pass that torch.” The mission statement of the school reads, “The mission of the Valley Christian School, as an extension of the Christian home, is to
provide Biblically based instruction and encouragement so that every student may reach their potential of academic, spiritual, and physical development, and live a life of love and service to God and others.”
As a parent, it takes everything one has to pass on that torch of faith to the next generation and the school is here to assist in that endeavor. I am glad that VCS was part of that “passing” for our children.

The other world event that was commemorated was 9/11/01 which happened 21 years ago this past Sunday. I remember vividly the events of that day as if it happened yesterday. I chatted with the secondary earlier this week about this event, and how it is important to “number our days” (Ps. 90:12) – put into focus our days in terms of our eternal destination. I talked about the various people who thought it was going to be a normal day – go to work and come home, fly from Boston to a destination city, or stay at home and watch children. When they got up in the morning, they did not have a clue that their lives would be changed forever by noon that day. How many people did not know their Maker before unexpectedly meeting their Him that day?

When we number our days, we put into proper perspective our importance in the day-to-day and our dependance on Christ. With Christ in the forefront of our minds, we can have hope, an eternal hope that
transcends the events of the day. It does not mean that we won’t be shaken by the events of the day, but we know that we are just sojourners here with our true destination in heaven.

Last week, I talked about how time is a precious commodity, and that it is. However, I was reminded a couple of days ago from Prov. 3:13-18 that wisdom and understanding has the ultimate value, so much so, that Solomon says, “That nothing I desire can compare to you.” Many commentators equate “wisdom” with Christ, so we should desire nothing but Him.

I noted last week that the school will be needing a replacement 6th grade teacher come January. What the thought is that the person replacing Mrs. Strohbeen would then continue in the Fall in that role.

Please pray that the Father would order the steps for those who He wants to be at VCS. Also, along this line, I need a sub-teacher for Kindergarten – Nov. 17, 18, 21.

Thanks to all who participated in the Kathie Cabreana fund raiser.
