Friends of Littleton K-9 present Two Dog Night, a celebration to support the Littleton Police Department’s K-9 officer program. The $30 admission includes two on-tap beers or non-alcoholic beverages, a K-9 “swag bag,” and parking in the lot at Reinke Bros. The event will feature music by DJ Sean, and food from Big Belly Brothers BBQ.

Tracy Hooker has been named the City of Littleton’s new Human Resources Director, effective October 10. Hooker’s 14-year career in human resources includes numerous leadership roles in the University of Colorado system, most recently a position as assistant vice president of human resources.

Hooker earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education, both from Colorado State University.

“I grew up in the Littleton area and am very excited for the opportunity to bring my skills and experience to a community I’m so passionate about in the HR Director role,” Hooker said. “I’m truly looking forward to working with all of the amazing people of the City of Littleton and seeing what we can accomplish together.”

Littleton and several partner agencies have concluded a groundbreaking study planning the future of Santa Fe Drive, identifying several short, medium, and long-term projects to improve the corridor.

The Santa Fe Drive Action Plan, formerly called the Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study, was a two-year effort to holistically examine traffic conditions and solutions along Santa Fe Drive from C-470 to I-25. The project was led by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), with collaboration from the cities of Littleton, Denver, Sheridan, and Englewood, as well as Arapahoe and Douglas counties. The bulk of the funding was provided by a federal grant, with Littleton contributing $250,000.

The Action Plan was developed with substantial public outreach and data analysis. The report concluded with recommendations for improvement projects along the 11-mile corridor and adjacent trail and light rail systems.

Two near-term projects are already under design in Littleton, with funding provided by CDOT: an access control and safety improvements project at the Santa Fe Drive/Crestline Avenue intersection, and a safety, capacity, and multimodal improvements project associated with the Santa Fe Drive/Prince Street intersection.

The final step in the Action Plan is to spend the remainder of the funding on Phase 2, beginning design on several of the other near-term and longer-term projects. This phase includes three projects within Littleton, including a multimodal improvement at the Mineral Light Rail Station, an evaluation of congestion mitigation alternatives at the Santa Fe Drive/Bowles Avenue intersection, and a C-470 to Mineral Avenue trail alignment analysis.

A city council study session has been scheduled for October 11, where the project management team will present final outcomes of the project.

Littleton Public Schools (LPS) is kicking off a series of community meetings to discuss the future of the East Elementary School building, part of plans to turn the building into a community center serving northeast Littleton.

East Elementary closed in 2021 as Littleton Public Schools works toward consolidating the school on the campus of nearby Moody Elementary School.

The first of four community meetings will be held Wednesday, September 21. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Future meetings will be held October 5, October 26, and November 9.

Time is running out to submit photos for the annual calendar photo contest! Winners will see their photos included in the 2023 Littleton Calendar and Annual Report, distributed citywide in December.

Each photographer may submit up to five photos. Winners receive $25, 10 calendars, and publicity via news releases and distribution of approximately 7,500 calendars to the community.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, September 23.

Littleton business owners or managers are invited to complete the 2022 Business Survey to help the City of Littleton better understand what services are most important to businesses. The surveys have been held every two years since 2012, and results are used to better align city services and programs with the needs of local businesses. The survey will be open through Monday, September 26.

South Suburban Parks and Recreation (SSPR) District is seeking input from community members for a study on the Mary Carter Greenway, the trail that runs alongside the South Platte River.

The Mary Carter Greenway offers access to parks and playgrounds, a nature center, shopping, dining, and much more. This study will help ensure the trail is safe, comfortable, and has the capacity to provide the amenities users desire.

Residents are invited to share their input by placing pins with ideas on an interactive online map. Comments concerning connection improvements, safety concerns, amenities, bottlenecks, and more are welcome. SSPR will collect comments and information until October 2022.

The annual Friends Craft Fair returns on October 1, bringing hundreds of artisans and vendors to Ketring Park, offering visitors an opportunity to find one-of-a-kind holiday gifts!

The fair, now in its 51st year, is hosted by the Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum. The fair includes more than 250 booths, as well as food and drink vendors. There is no charge for admission. Proceeds help support Bemis Public Library and the Littleton Museum.
