What Matters in the New HD27

It’s been quite a fun month since my last newsletter. I’ve been focused on getting out and about in my new district to meet both local electeds as well as constituents from every walk of life. With the new addition of Applewood and foothills communities as well as the entire city of Golden, I wanted to make sure that I know what issues are of concern in these new parts of House District 27. I may have already knocked on your door or run into you around town.

Some of you may not know this, but I work and have worked in Golden for a number of years but more recently working from home doing software. Spending more time in Golden has warmed my sentimental heart. I’m incredibly proud, especially as a Geologist, to be running to represent this charming city and the entrepreneurial spirit within it.

My chats with residents and electeds alike have confirmed that the needs in the district are many. In fact, I’ve already been busy working to connect the right folks together to start work on solving some of the smaller issues. Here are the big takeaways (so far) from my conversations over the past few weeks:

  • Wildfire mitigation - state and federal response to this issue that HD27 faces every year - Jeffco is very susceptible to wildfire in the WUI
  • Environment - expanding renewable energy options, EV charging stations, combating climate change
  • Housing Affordability - smart planning and building more affordable housing
  • Broadband access - My rural communities could use more access to reliable internet

If I haven’t gotten a chance to speak with you directly, and you’re in the district, please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to set up a meeting or a call. To be your true Representative, I need to know who you are and what you’re all about. Please reach out! I’m always available to constituents!

What I've Been Up To...
HOA Town Hall: I participated in a special town hall on HOAs with Rep. Ricks. We talked about HB1137 and other topics currently being talked about at the Capitol.

LWV HD27 Candidate Forum: I participated in a candidate forum with one of the HD27 candidates online. Check it out here when it's posted.

Arvada Chamber BOLD2026 Event: Arvada is joining a new non-profit aimed at preparing for economic strength and resiliency. We are losing workers to retirement and not adding workforce. This group will be helping address this.

PBS Interview: Did you see the report on HOAs? I also recently interviewed with Denver7 to talk about the same topic airing this coming week.

SIPA Microgrants: A sub committee with SIPA met and I Chaired the meeting to determine microgrant recipients. We are offering over $175,000 worth of grants to local entities around Colorado to help the public get information.

Tour of Deangelis Foundation facility: We have a very unique training center in Jeffco to help schools and other organizations prepare for incidents. We had an inside look at how they train and saw a simulated response.

Jeffco Town Hall: One of the two town halls I do. This one we talked about elections with George Stern, our Clerk and Recorder.

Denver Rustlers: Each year, elected officials get together to support 4H and their livestock auction at the State Fair. It's a fun event to catch up with folks like Kate Greenberg, our Director of Agriculture.

Lutheran Medical Center Replacement Hospital Construction Milestone reception: The last beam was placed on the new hospital during this ceremony. Although this hospital is just outside my district, many of my constituents will utilize this high tech modern facility.

JCMH Legislative BBQ: I forgot to get a photo at the BBQ, but I always go to this annual event to support JCMH, DDRC, and Senior Resource Center and to speak with Jeffco constituents at this event.

CARA Award: Several legislators were given awards for out 100% record supporting seniors. Proud to be making the lives of Seniors better!

Farm Tour in Adams County: We toured a wheat farm to learn about the challenges of farmers in Colorado and get a first hand look at how a working farm operates.

Arts Caucus Thank You event: The CBCA had an event to thank Legislators who were instrumental in helping preserve the arts. I was one of those legislators!

Women Transforming Government: I was invited to participate on a panel to speak about our experience in Government and how we navigate tough issues and to inspire others to get involved.
