AADM's Meet & Greet w/ Local Elected Officials

On September 10th, 2022, the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) hosted a discussion with current and soon-to-be ACC Commissioners and CCSD School Board members on the issues that matter in the Athens community.
Hear from our guests on issues such as housing, restorative justice in education, civilian oversight over policing, and 'teaching the truth'!

News From AADM
Meet Coco Lankford, AADM's Teen Social Justice Coordinator!
Ms. Lankford is a Queens, New York native and an alumni of Jamaica High School. She earned a BA in Black and Puerto Rican Studies with a minor in Education from Hunter College-CUNY. She is an educator and has taught high school in New York, Texas, and Georgia. She is the Executive Director of the Athens Area Performing Arts Collective and Creative Director of D.I.R.T., a newly formed theatre company in Athens, Georgia.

Ms. Lankford works diligently to educate, uplift, and empower youth who are marginalized and, in many ways, disregarded by the powers that be. She is an advocate for teens and strives to give voice to those who are often unheard. She joined AADM in 2019 and has volunteered in a number capacities. She has joined the AADM team and will now serve as our part-time Teen Social Justice Coordinator.

Join an exciting evening of live music, free food, and family fun to get Ready – Set – to VOTE in the November 8 election!
This election is critical, and voting is harder for many. So let’s sing and dance to The Splitz and dine on Rashe’s cuisine while we build joy getting Ready – Set— to Vote!
This event is proudly hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens in partnership with the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, the Economic Justice Coalition, Indivisible Georgia District 10, the New Georgia Project, and UU the Vote.

Raise Our Black Voices Town Hall Series

1pm-3pm @ Ebenezer Baptist Church West (205 N Chase St, Athens, GA 30606)
 
Join AADM and the GA Educators for Equity and Justice for the "Raise Our Black Voices" town hall series! This event will take place on September 25th from 1pm-3pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, West (205 N Chase St, Athens, GA 30606). 

Art for Justice Saturdays

 
Head to the Justice Center each Saturday from 3 to 5pm for weekly art classes led by our volunteer member, Cedric. Paint to soothing music and discuss local issues with AADM members. Paint supplies are provided and painters of all skill levels are welcome. Classes are free with donations highly encouraged.
