| Send Us Your Love Story for Our Chance to Win! | | The Petco Love Stories grant program is back this year to celebrate the love that we share with our pets! We can submit up to two stories showing how our FCAR pups have changed their adopters’ lives. Petco Love has awarded nearly $7 million in grants to animal welfare organizations like ours through this annual program.
We invite you to send us your FCAR love story! Your story should demonstrate how your adopted pet has made your life better, and should be a celebration of the love you share with your pet. Stories can range from the simplest things that bring joy to life every day to one-of-a-kind, extraordinary stories. Stories must be 500 words or less and about a pet currently living. For more information and to read past winning love stories, visit https://petcolove.org/lovestories/.
Deadline for submitting your love story to FCAR is Friday, Sept. 30, at 11:59 pm. For more information, or to view our other pups available for adoption, visit our website, foreverchangedar.org. | | Sweet and loving Dolly was abandoned in a high-kill shelter as a pregnant mom, where subsequently she and her 10 babies were all in danger of being euthanized, as the shelter did not have the space for this little family. We stepped in to bring them to safety and the puppies have all found their forever homes, but Dolly is still looking. She would be the perfect pup for someone looking for a velcro dog. Given all the changes and trauma she has lived through, Dolly is nervous when she's left alone. She would do best in an active home where her humans are home with her most of the day. Despite the rough start to her life, Dolly is the most loving, gentle, affectionate and snuggly pup there ever was. She is great with other dogs, children and every human she has ever met! |

| | Lacey was trapped in a local pound in Texas with her sister as a young puppy. Our local contacts and partner rescue pulled her out and ensured that she was safe until she finally joined us in late August. This sweet and loving retriever mix is ready to find her forever home! She is a little nervous in new places, in busy crowds, and around loud noises. Just give her a few days to figure out her new surroundings, and she totally comes out of her shell! Lacey loves her canine friends and loves to be around her people. She is the perfect mix of playful and cuddly, and gets along with everyone she meets, even cats! She is about 10 months old, 45 pounds, spayed and up to date on all her vaccines and preventatives. Her ideal home would be one not in a busy city, and she would love canine friends to play with (though she doesn’t need another dog in the home to thrive). She would also do well with respectful children. |

| | Dumpling is a sweet, sensitive 7-month-old lab mix. She was pretty scared and overwhelmed when she first arrived at her foster home, but she's steadily becoming more trusting and comfortable. Outside can be a little scary but as she gets used to her new backyard, her playful and inquisitive side has started to come out. She aced her potty training but leash training will take a bit more time as she continues to work on feeling brave and safe. She is shy and hesitant with new people and animals at first but once you gain her trust she is affectionate. Dumpling loves to snuggle on the couch and seems to be a more low-energy dog. Young children and rambunctious dogs will be too overwhelming for her. A calm, patient and loving household will be the perfect fit for her. In addition to seeking an adopter, Dumpling needs a new foster starting in October. |

| Join Us for FCAR’s Monthly Gatherings! | | FCAR supporters and their dogs as well as prospective adopters and volunteers are cordially invited to join us and our adoptable pups in a monthly get-together on the patio at Rebellion on the Pike, 2900 Columbia Pike, Arlington. Gatherings are held every first Tuesday of the month (or second Tuesday if there’s a weather-related postponement) from 6 to 8 pm. Our next get-together is Tuesday, Oct. 4. See you there! | | Do you have room in your heart and home to help a rescued animal on a temporary basis? Fostering is a rewarding experience for both families and singles. And the more foster volunteers we have, the more homeless, abused and neglected animals we can save. FCAR provides everything: food, toys, leashes, etc., as well as veterinary care and all the advice and support you may need. Fostering is a great way to take a “test drive” with a pup, and our fosters always have the option to adopt the dog they care for. Ready to get started? Visit foreverchangedar.org/foster-a-pet. |

| Be ‘Pup-pared’ for the Fall Season | | Cooler weather is finally on the way — and so are some seasonal safety concerns to be aware of for you and your pup.
🐾 Decreased daylight hours. Reflective leashes and collars, flashlights or headlamps, and light-colored clothing for you will help keep your pet and you more visible and safe during those early morning and evening walks.
🐾 Acorns, acorns, acorns! They’re all over the ground this time of year, and they’re a big no-no for our pups. Acorns contain tannins and other compounds that can cause stomach upsets ranging from mild to severe, and because they’re hard and sharp could also cause internal obstruction.
🐾 Chrysanthemums and other plants. The flower, stem and leaves of mums are toxic for dogs. Other fall-blooming plants that have toxic potential include clematis and meadow saffron/autumn crocus.
🐾 Cool weather poisons. Rat and mouse poison use increases this time of year, as rodents try to escape cooler weather by moving indoors. Rodenticides are highly toxic to pets, so be extremely cautious about using them around animals.
For more information on these and other seasonal concerns, click here and here. | | | |
