Club Update
Welcome to Spring!! Just a quick update with a few topical issues to follow up on:

FedWalks at Wangaratta

Please remind your members that there are still places available at the FedWalks event on 1-2 October.  Numbers are slightly lower than anticipated but we’re looking forward to a great weekend.  The activity program and booking link is HERE.

We are yet to lock in a host (or hosts) for next year’s event, which we are proposing to hold in the Wombat State Forest.  If your club would consider becoming involved, either by providing leaders or assisting with event organisation, please contact us for a discussion - no pressure!

Falls to Hotham Crossing Submissions

A reminder that feedback on the FHAC project closes on Sunday 25 September. This round of consultation offers the opportunity to provide feedback on the design and location of the four accommodation modes planned along the route - the proposed siting on Diamantina spur is of particular concern.

Please read the latest information provided on the project. We strongly encourage clubs and their members to have their own say on the draft designs - the greater the number of submissions, the more likely the concerns of independent bushwalkers will be heard.

Communications Update

Newsletter Editor
Liz Robinson will be stepping down as our Newsletter Editor after the next issue and we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Liz for stepping into this role when we called out for assistance.  She has delivered an extremely high quality product and we hope we can sustain this standard moving forward.

I am pleased to announce that our new Editor will be Patsy Scales, whom many of you will remember from several years ago when she was BWV’s Office Manager.  We welcome Patsy back on board!

Newsletter Contributions
Most of us love a base camp and one of Liz’s initiatives for our Bulletin was the introduction of a ‘Brilliant Base Camps’ series - a way to share our favourite places for a base camp.  We do need your contributions though to keep this series alive and provide some inspiration for clubs and others to plan a base camp for their members. Please send them in soon.

Club Communications
We have recently completed a Reader Survey for the Bushwalking News Bulletin and a summary will be presented in the next issue. Feedback suggests that many readers would be interested in hearing more about clubs so we would like to run some club profiles in our bulletin to give non-members an idea of what it is like to be part of the club environment.

If your club would like some free publicity to attract new members please write a brief summary of your club’s activities and send it in with some photos showing your members out and about having a good time.  We’ll use it in future newsletters and possibly on our website and/or Facebook page.

Get Involved at Bushwalking Victoria

While we are always on the lookout for potential Board members, there are other ways to contribute as part of our bushwalking community.  We will soon be putting a call out for club members to assist in a number of areas, such as the Safety Committee, policy and guidelines updates, and promotional activities.  If you have outgoing committee members who may have the time to assist, we would love to hear from them.

A reminder that we are still looking for our next Treasurer, ideally from within our club network.  There will be plenty of time for a handover before the new person is required to take over so please let us know if you know someone who may be interested.
Board Minutes
are available here for the following month:   July
