Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We trust that you’ve all had a wonderful long weekend, celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with your family and friends! This past week at Small World, the children continued to learn about the festivities in Hong Kong through playful and meaningful experiences. Displays of traditional food were showcased downstairs for children to explore and observe, for example pomelos, mooncakes, lotus roots and taro.  In class, the Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated with lantern parades, stories, traditions and songs whilst children explored mooncakes through play dough and mooncake moulds.

Through the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), we continue to provide international learning opportunities to our students, encouraging them to develop interest and curiosity about the world and its people. International learning encourages children to investigate the world beyond their own experience, enabling them to explore social contexts and interactions within which they can develop a strong sense of others and appreciation of diversity. These experiences help learners develop a sense of international mindedness as they continue to explore and express themselves in various contexts. Together with our young learners, we look forward to learning more about Hong Kong and the children’s home countries, as we continue to explore and celebrate significant festivities that are meaningful to them.

Health and Safety Measures

Student Vaccination Status & Travel History Declaration

Please complete the online form before the first day your child returns on campus, and whenever there are any updates regarding your child’s vaccination status and travel history during the school year.

Temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test (RAT) Record

Kindly monitor your child/ren’s temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test daily before coming to school, making sure to record and submit his/her results on the online form. Please also inform us of your child’s Vaccine Pass code on this form. This is important to help keep the health and safety of our community and ensure that on-campus school can remain open.

You will also be able to access these forms via the Dashboard.

For more details, please also read through this Health Precautions for Resumption of On Campus School Learning” document carefully in preparation for coming back to school.

School Attendance during “Medical Surveillance” Period

As of 12th August 2022, the Hong Kong government has reduced the quarantine requirement for returning Hong Kong residents to 3 days, with an additional 4 days of medical surveillance. Small World students will be permitted to enter the campus during the medical surveillance period on the condition of a negative RAT result in the morning. Please notify the school if your child/family is under medical surveillance (i.e., “Amber Code”) using the Temperature and RAT record form.

If your child or a member of your family is requested to conduct community testing, you must await a negative test result before entering the school. Please refer to the Covid-19 Risk and Response Matrix for Students of Generations Christian Education for more details.

New Communication Platform at Small World - Hero

We are newly introducing Hero as the online platform for communication between the school, teachers, and our current families at Small World!
Hero has many features which will provide an enhanced learning link between home and school. We will be utilizing these features to keep you better informed about your children's learning experiences as well as school updates & announcements.
We hope that Hero will be a two-way communication platform for parents/caregivers and the school, and we encourage you to actively engage with your child's class teachers.

For those of you who are returning to Small World, Hero will be replacing Tapestry. Tapestry will not be immediately decommissioned so that returning families can continue to have access to the records from previous school years.

Did you know Small World also offers an age-appropriate program for our youngest learners? Our playgroup is an accompanied programme designed for children 18-32 months to enjoy meaningful experiences alongside their caregivers. We provide a stimulating and nurturing environment, supporting your child in becoming a confident, caring, and motivated individual! Sign-ups for Autumn Term (29th August - 15th December, 2022 ) are currently ongoing. Please refer to the SY 2022/2023 Autumn Term Sign-Up Form here if you are interested to join.

Please contact playgroup@generations.edu.hk for any questions about signing up or attending a free trial session.

In Small World, International Mindedness is defined as “I know myself and I accept, respect and celebrate that God made us all unique and different.”

It refers to the experiences that enable children to develop knowledge and an increasing understanding beyond that related to their own nationality and identity and of the independence and interdependence of people, countries, and cultures.

Thank you for attending the ‘Meet the Teachers’ evening last Wednesday - I hope you had an opportunity to meet your child’s class teachers, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding about what learning looks like in the classroom. If you missed this session, do not be discouraged as there will be more school engagement opportunities for you in the near future.

Our Small World Team and I will be at the JW Marriott Hotel this Saturday, September 17th, to participate in the annual SCMP International Schools Festival. It will be a wonderful time to meet young families - please support us by  inviting your family and friends to come and meet our team on this day. Kindly look for us, and our sister school, Norwegian International School, at the Generations Christian Education booth!

Prayerfully yours,
