At a crucial time where rising energy costs are a growing concern for Camden businesses, the Mayor's Business Climate Challenge (BCC) offers organisations an opportunity to receive free tailored energy support.
Whilst tackling the energy crisis, the scheme allows businesses to also address the climate crisis by reducing carbon emissions.
The Camden Climate Change Alliance and it's consortium partners are delighted to announce the first cohort of businesses accepted onto the 2022/23 programme:

Six-month energy bill cap for UK businesses
Government has introduced an emergency package of support for businesses to help combat soaring energy prices.
A "supported wholesale price" has been announced for gas and electricity that will limit the unit price that suppliers can charge customers.
Businesses will not need to take any action, as the discounts will be automatically applied to their bills. The support offered to businesses will be equivalent to the £2,500-a-year "energy price guarantee" that was announced earlier this month for households.
The scheme will be effective from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, and will also benefit other non-domestic energy users including charities and public sector organisations such as schools.
Government will review the scheme in three months and take a decision on whether to extend support beyond March 2023.

Camden Climate Investment reaches £1 million funding target
Camden Council is pleased to announce that the Camden Climate Investment has reached its £1 million investment target.
The investment will help directly fund local climate projects to benefit our communities and help make Camden a zero-carbon borough. These include:
- Installing 80 further electric vehicle charging points
- Continuing the rollout of the Council’s Healthy School Streets initiative
- Contributing to the replacement of the Council’s fleet of diesel and petrol vehicles with green alternatives
- Installing solar panels on council buildings

Support our Climate Connectors programme
The CCCA is excited to announce it's partnership with Think and Do Camden to deliver the Climate Connectors programme from September 2022 - June 2023.
The 'Partnerships' theme of the Camden Climate Pledge identifies the need for organisations to work in partnership with local schools and community groups on projects aimed at improving sustainability, if we are to tackle the climate crisis.
We're looking for businesses that are interested in supporting local climate action projects through funding, donation of materials and resources or volunteering staff time, to help mobilise projects.
Examples of local projects could include:
- Tree planting and rewilding projects
- Air quality projects with schools or community groups
- Career days/mentoring for local students
- Corporate volunteering time

Consultation: Clean Air Action Plan
Camden Council has published a draft new Camden Clean Air Action Plan 2022-2026 (CAAP) setting out proposed actions and outcomes for cleaning the borough’s air over the next four years.
The new CAAP reaffirms the Council’s commitment to meeting the World Health Organization’s limits for harmful pollutants throughout Camden by 2034. It also seeks to tackle the disproportionate impact air pollution has on some communities and upon vulnerable people.
Air pollution is the largest environmental risk for health and everyone is affected by it. Therefore Camden Council is encouraging anyone with a connection to the borough, including those who work here, to comment on the proposals.
Camden would like businesses to share their opinions and ideas about how best we can all work together to tackle the air quality health crisis.

Consultation: Flood Risk Management Strategy
The draft Camden Flood Risk Management Strategy (FRMS) sets out how Camden Council and partner authorities will work together to manage flood risk.
The FRMS focuses not just on action to manage flood risk, but also on measures designed to build resilience to its impact.
Camden is not immune from extreme weather events and the likelihood of flooding events occurring is increasing as a result of human induced climate change.
There have been three major flooding incidents recorded in Camden, taking place in 1975, 2002 and 2021. Flooding in July 2021 impacted over 100 residential properties and 12 businesses.
An investigation of the flood event was completed, and the flood risk management recommendations have been embedded into this draft Strategy.
