September 30th
Chigamik honours the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada - honouring the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.
Chigamik Community Health Centre, in partnership with the Midland Community Health Hub, honoured this important day with a series of educational events for staff throughout the day and for the community in the evening. There were activities for people of all ages including a drumming circle, a sacred fire, and other workshops and teachings based on the Medicine Wheel.
Thank you to Chigamik's Indigenous Committee and our community partners for organizing this special day and to our community for joining us!

Homelessness in Simcoe County
Chigamik took part in the "Our Health Simcoe" event on September 15th
Chigamik's Executive Director, Suzanne Marchand, took part in the panel discussion about homelessness in Simcoe County.
Homelessness is a major problem in Simcoe County and throughout Canada. Previously a crisis of urban centres, homelessness now reaches all areas and requires more services and resources. It is estimated that there are over 35,000 homeless people in Canada and include men, women, youth, seniors, veterans, gender diverse, mentally ill, and all races. On September 15th, Our Health Simcoe hosted "Home and Health" at the Midland Cultural Centre. The panel examined how homelessness affects health both mentally and physically and presented ideas on how to support this growing crisis.

Chigamik Celebrates Community Health & Wellbeing Week
From October 17th to 23rd, Community Health Centres across the province are celebrating Community Health and Wellbeing week. The theme of this year’s week is Confronting Inequity, Celebrating Community. The goal of this initiative is to pause and recognize each other's work in the community and to advocate for changes in Ontario’s health and social systems to address inequities.
During Community Health and Wellbeing Week, Chigamik's leadership team signed a pledge to confront inequity by reaffirming Chigamik's commitment to provide equitable supports and services for vulnerable members of our community.
Follow us on social media where we will be sharing photos and posts to celebrate how our programs and services promote equitable health and wellbeing.
