Seeing With Eyes of Faith

2 Kings 6:17 (NIV®)
Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

The Aramean king was threatening the Israelites, but the Lord had given Elisha, the prophet, knowledge of his army’s every move. The king heard about it and decided to plug the information leak by sending a military detachment to capture the prophet during the night. When Elisha’s servant awoke, he was surprised to see the horses and chariots surrounding the city. Panicked, he said to Elisha, “Oh no! What are we going to do?” “Don’t be afraid,” Elisha replied. “There is more fighting with us than against us.” Then, Elisha prayed this simple prayer, and the man’s eyes were opened to the massive heavenly army that was prepared to do battle on their behalf. Elisha was awake to spiritual activity that the servant couldn’t see. It’s possible to know God but be asleep to aspects of His character and what He is doing. Do you want to awaken and see what God is doing? I do. I want to see with eyes of faith.

THINK ABOUT IT
Eyes of faith enable us to see the working of God, comprehend the purposes of God, and push back on the evil that opposes Him. Ask the Lord to give you eyes of faith in an even greater way.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me more clearly see the fullness of Your character and what You are doing in the earth. Enliven my faith as I lean into Your perspective so that I might respond to challenges more aware of You than evil. In Jesus’ name, amen.
