Doing what we can to support you
Dear Parents/Carers
We will all be acutely aware of the prices for essentials such as food and fuel going up on what seems sometimes to be a daily basis.
Food and fuel are just two examples of unavoidable expenses in our lives. Clothing is another item we could probably add to this list. I am acutely aware, especially at the start of an academic year, that the cost of buying school uniform adds to the financial concerns of some families.
With this in mind, and taking in to consideration the inevitability of children growing as they progress through their 5 years of secondary school, we have set up a second-hand uniform offer via our website.
Please click the link below for information regarding the items of uniform we currently have available:
If you have any of these pieces of uniform at home that no longer fit and are still in good condition, we would appreciate your child bringing them in to school so that we can add them to our second-hand uniform offer.
Enjoy the weekend with your children and the opportunity to show your respect for our late Queen on Monday.
Regards

Fairthorne Manor
On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September Year 7 visited Fairthorne Manor. It was wonderful to see them enjoying a range of activities from low ropes to initiative tests and for some students conquering fears in Fire Lighting and working at height in the Vertical Assault.
The students displayed a range of our John Hanson Habits for Learning during the trip, including getting unstuck in the Jacob’s Ladder, working collaboratively during the Team Challenge and independently in the archery. A fun time was had by staff and students alike.
Well done Year 7 on a wonderful bonding trip and completing their first 2 weeks at John Hanson.
Do you have a little one at home in nappies?
Hampshire County Council are pleased to launch a new scheme providing Hampshire residents with 15% off reusable nappies. It is estimated that each child will go through as many as 4,000 nappies by age two and a half. That’s 920 kilograms per child – as heavy as two grand pianos! As a result, disposable nappies make up around 6% of the average rubbish bin in Hampshire homes. By switching to reusables, you can make a big impact and reduce how much waste you throw away.
Hampshire County Council recognises that the initial cost of reusables can be a barrier for some families, which is why we have partnered with six retailers, providing ample choice of products to suit your needs at a discounted price.
4. Retrieve your discount code (don't forget to make a note of your expiry date)
5. Spend with your supplier of choice
This week, ninety Year 9 students participated in a research study focusing on reading motivation led by Lucy Whitchurch from Winchester University.
All their responses were anonymous, but will prove invaluable in helping psychologists understand more about this crucial area. They were wonderful guinea pigs and thank them for their time and effort.
