January at Curry Public Library

An Award-Winning Library

Curry Public Library is pleased to share the news that we were designated as a Star Library by the national library publication, Library Journal. We were one of nine libraries in Oregon, and one of 258 nationwide to earn this recognition. Star Library ratings are based on data from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) annual Public Library Survey. We are particularly proud of this distinction because the data, which is from the 2020 pandemic period, reflects just how hard we worked to stay open and continue providing services. In fact, our per capita in-person library visits was the 8th highest of the 258 libraries in the United States were awarded stars at 24.10 visits per year.

Other information with noting:

  • Per capita physical circulation was 11 items per year.
  • Per capital e-material circulation was 1.66 items per year.
  • Per capital program attendance was 2.07 programs per year.

Thank you for making us an important part of the Gold Beach community.

UGLY SWEATER CONTEST:

There were some ugly (and funny) sweaters for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition this year. Everyone who attended the festivities was invited to vote for their favorite. Thank you for getting us in the Christmas spirit with the sweaters you wore. The Peoples’ Choice winner is Bre Phelan.

Thank you to the 40 people who submitted entries this year. We also want to thank our guest judges: Sergio Martinez from Century 21; Meriah Carpenter from Leavened Bread; and Michelle Berlant from The Old Agness Store; and Beatriz Ramos and Karman Mann from Rogue Credit Union. We are grateful for the volunteers who helped at the event. All the gingerbread houses were amazing and it was obvious much effort and creativity went into creating them, making it a tough task for the judges!
