CyberSC Delivers Minimum Baseline Cyber Training To SC Municipalities

On August 8th and 9th, CyberSC delivered its Minimum Baseline training to over 50 municipalities from across the state of  South Carolina.  Using the Minimum Baseline training curriculum developed by the Mass Cyber Center, CyberSC showed city staff and administrators some best practices when it comes to protecting their municipalities from cyber attack.

For South Carolina municipalities, technology offers the opportunity to make citizens’ lives less stressful by providing easy ways to pay tax bills and parking tickets, and efficient ways to issue permits and other services.  However, with today’s enhanced technologies, the threat of a cyber attack on every municipality has increased, leaving municipalities wondering how to manage IT costs while better protecting themselves.

The purpose of defining a Minimum Baseline of Cybersecurity for Municipalities is to encourage municipalities to improve their cybersecurity posture, inspire collaboration, and engage with other cities and towns to strengthen cybersecurity resiliency. These “basics” can be done fairly inexpensively, but require an investment of time for municipal employees.
