Asthma in Spring- Allergies and Thunderstorms webinar


Gippsland PHN, in partnership with the National Asthma Council of Australia, is holding a webinar on spring time asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR) for general practitioners and health professionals.

The one-hour session is on how to manage both conditions using the latest evidence-based guidelines, but critically also identifies those at greater risk of thunderstorm asthma and guidelines for management.

The asthma in spring webinar covers important learnings including:
  • the association between allergic rhinitis and asthma
  • treatment guidelines for allergic rhinitis
  • those at greater risk of thunderstorm asthma and the guidelines of management
  • the importance of written asthma action plans and asthma first aid in thunderstorm asthma season.

Spirometry in general practice
 

Murray PHN has partnered with the National Asthma Council to produce a comprehensive guide to implementing infection prevention and control principles in spirometry testing.

The animations, visualisations and instructions contained in the clip reflect the latest Thoracic Society’s guidelines for spirometry testing in primary care. You are welcome to disseminate through your networks and use as a resource for your team if you are currently conducting spirometry testing in your clinic.

Education activity - Long Acting Injectable Buprenorphine


An invitation is extended to general practitioners, nurse practitioners and pharmacists to attend this no charge to you CPD approved education activity.
 
Gippsland PHN is partnering with the Gippsland Pharmacotherapy Network to deliver this CPD approved face-2-face education. The session aims to provide education to prescribers on long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB), a treatment option for opioid dependant patients.

Topics include:
• benefits of LAIB versus current treatment options
• practical considerations/requirements for handling and dispensing LAIB
• facilitated discussion regarding LAIB use for patients located in Gippsland

AOD Learning Platforms for health professionals


To better support general practitioners and health professionals across the region to better support their patients overcome the impacts of Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), a Gippsland specific learning platform with evidence-based education modules and resources is now available.

Currently, the alcohol-related death rate across Gippsland are the highest in Victoria.

Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) and Quality Innovation Performance Limited (QIP) have partnered with Gippsland PHN to develop and deliver educational support and resources to assist with delivery of drug and alcohol training to GPs and other health professionals in Gippsland region.

This interactive webinar by a specialist ophthalmologist from the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is for general practitioners to improve their knowledge and skills in the assessment of patients with visual flashes, floaters, blurring and loss.

The  60-minute interactive lecture style presentation is for for GPs and GP registrars.

Dr Penelope Allen, an ophthalmologist who works at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, will present her insights on how to assess and manage patients with visual flashes, floaters, blurring and loss.

Osteoporosis management for general practitioners


The University of Melbourne has developed a learning hub for GPs who would like to know more about osteoporosis management.
 
The site is moderated by specialists in the area and GPs. It is a great opportunity for GPs to ask the tough questions and upload case studies for discussion.
 
In collaboration with The University of Melbourne, Praxhub will be hosting a Small Group Learning activity for GPs to discuss the prevention of osteoporosis and fractures, difficult-to-manage cases, investigations, treatment options, and monitoring.

Filtering through the impact of chronic kidney disease on CVD (Heart Foundation)


The Heart Foundation is partnering with the World Heart Federation in a health professional webinar exploring the latest evidence on CVD and chronic kidney disease, including early detection of renal risk factors for CVD.

This event will be chaired by Prof Garry Jennings, Chief Medical Advisor of the Heart Foundation, who will be joined by Professor George Bakris, internationally renowned nephrologist as well as Australian experts.

National Pelvic Pain Conference in Traralgon - register now

 

Tickets are now available for the National Pelvic Pain Conference 2022, hosted by the Latrobe Health Assembly.

Latrobe Valley has been selected as the location for the conference due to a successful pilot program implemented in 2020 as an initiative of the Latrobe Health Innovation Zone. The conference is a health practitioner-training conference, developed by leading experts in the field to provide practical management for a wide range of pelvic pain conditions and is exclusive to AHPRA-registered health professionals.

Mental Health Victoria is presenting a new set of accredited training and courses that allow accrual of Continual Professional Development (CPD) points.

In partnership with Suicide Programs, MHV is now offering ‘Accidental Counsellor’, a program that provides participants with an understanding of the counselling process and strategies for dealing with people in crisis.

MHV is joining with the Health Issues Centre in offering a Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement and for those beginning their journey as a leader in the lived experience space, ‘Consumer Leadership’.

Eating Disorder Core Skills training


The Eating Disorder Core Skills training has been developed specifically for mental health professionals. It is evidence-based, nationally recognised and free to access here.

Child safety and wellbeing training
 

The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) is working with the Victorian Department of Education and Training - Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) to improve child safety and wellbeing and family violence outcomes.

This is being done by improving information sharing across sectors including primary health care. This 30-minute lunchtime information session is titled CISS Project Education Information Session #3 Child Information Sharing - How it works in Practice.

Foundations of chronic disease program


The Benchmarque Group has recently launched its new free online-only Foundations of Chronic Disease program.

Delivered completely online, the program is aimed at a range of health professionals working within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health or have Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, and is estimated to take less than 10 hours to complete.

Focussed psychological strategies skills training for general practitioners.

RACGP and the Rural Workforce Agency of Victoria (RWAV) are offering 100 scholarships to Victorian GPs in Modified Monash Model (MMM) 3-7 and GPs working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in (MMM) 1-2 + (MMM) 3-7  locations to complete Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST).
