Ponderings

When is a quart not a quart and a pound not a pound? If you check your local grocery store, you’ll find plenty of examples. What I’m relaying is a recent conversation noting that the sizes of many of the things we’re accustomed to buying are smaller than they used to be. What used to be a quart of ice cream is no longer a full quart, etcetera.

In these days of uncertainty about size, we at The Palms are not shortening the Ten Commandments to eight. We are not limiting or shrinking God’s love, either.

Our job in the church is to expand the love, the justice, the welcome. In a day when companies are cutting corners on their products, we are offering Love that is unconditional, working for a just world for all, and providing radical hospitality.

Shalom, Paul

Justice Is Not for Just Us at The Palms

The Coconut Palm
Harry's local manufacturing business was broken into last night and a large quantity of wigs was stolen.

Police are currently combing the area for clues.

They actually stopped manufacturing glitter in 1972.

I used to work for a submarine manufacturing company.
Unfortunately, it went under.

What do you call an adequate manufacturing plant?
A satisfactory.

A sales representative stops at a small manufacturing plant. He presents a box of cigars to the manager as a gift. “No, thanks" says the plant manager. "I tried smoking a cigar once, but I didn't like it."

The sales rep shows his display case and then, hoping to clinch a sale, offers to take the manager out for a round of drinks. "No, thanks" the plant manager replies. "You know, I tried alcohol once, but didn't like it.”

Then the salesman glances out the office window and sees a golf course. "I suppose you play golf." says the salesman. "I'd like to invite you to be a guest at my club". "That's kind of you, but no, thanks," the manager says. "I played golf once, but I didn't like it."

Just then a young man enters the office. "Let me introduce my son, Mike," says the plant manager. "Let me guess," the salesman replies, "An only child?"
