Anti-Racism Challenge from the Earth and Spirit Center. Our parish has been invited to join others in our community in this challenge. It works in much the same way as a food challenge or lifestyle challenge: by regularly participating in anti-racism activities, we naturally develop better habits of noticing and challenging racism in our daily lives. For four weeks beginning October 1, participants will receive a weekly email with a list of 10-12 anti-racism activities. These may include reading an article, watching a film made by Black artists, patronizing a Black-owned business, etc. We ask participants to complete 3 of the activities over the course of the week. The idea is that by paying careful attention and learning more about racism over the month, we become better allies and advocates for a fair society. We would love to participate as a congregation and gather a group to discuss our experiences and thoughts over this time. Please contact Sally McDonald at 558-7971 or sdmac43@gmail.com. Participation can also be on an individual basis, reporting to no one.

 OUTREACH

Upcoming winter coat collection. The Outreach Committee will be collecting coats, hats, scarves, gloves and blankets during the month of October. Items collected will go to the KRM community, which includes refugees and asylum-seekers. Not only is KRM expecting over 100 refugees next month, but there are also many refugees here who will be experiencing their first winter.

We encourage you to put a note in your neighborhood newsletter, contact your family and friends and as you go through your closet and put aside as many of those winter items mentioned above as you can. Last year, even with the pandemic, we collected over 200 items.

More info about the collection process in the coming weeks. It’s not the circus, but winter is coming to town soon, so let’s be ready to collect winter coats, etc. for “Ladies and Gentlemen and Children of all ages!”

For more info, contact Denee Bannister dancedenee@bellsouth.net

   Illuminations on Sunday's Reading

Consistent with the messages in the Psalm excerpt and Second Reading that follow, this little gem of wisdom literature gently encourages God’s people to follow God’s teaching and commandments. Follow these rules well – “wear them round your neck” – and God and your neighbors alike will think highly of you.
