September Events & Programs

Climate Week
Monday, September 19 –  Saturday, September 24
In keeping with Battery Park City’s legacy of environmental leadership, Battery Park City Authority celebrates Climate Week NYC with a diverse set of programs open to the public. Check out our social media channels daily for more information: instagram.com/bpcparks, facebook.com/batteryparkcityparks, twitter.com/bpca_ny

Get There Green! is a week to promote and celebrate more sustainable modes of transportation.  During Climate Week (and beyond) we encourage all New Yorkers to take action by using a more sustainable mode of transportation, such as walking, biking, transit or carpooling. Transportation represents the largest source of New York State's greenhouse gas emissions and the largest part of most New Yorker's personal carbon footprint as well. This is why it is critically important that we all lower our transportation-related emissions in order to meet our nation-leading economy-wide greenhouse gas emission reduction goals of 40% of 1990 emission levels by 2030.

Together, we will observe the changing seasons and learn about the pollinators and other insects who help our plants thrive. Attendees at Young Sprouts Gardening will release ladybugs throughout Rockefeller Park, building on BPCA’s similar efforts last year to help to repopulate these ecologically-important insects that keep our flora healthy and safe from other plant-eating insects. For more information, click here.

Modern Jewish Sounds Concert: Jake Sherman Dream Band
Thursday, September 22
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Born in Boston, Jake Sherman learned classical piano by listening to his father play Bach every morning. If not for an intervention – stumbling upon the catalog of Weird Al Yankovic – he would have followed in his father’s path or perhaps become a jazz purist. Fast forward some years and it’s clear Jake has found a way to combine his appreciation of great songwriting with his piano/organ-playing prowess.
