Good morning members,

We hope everyone is having a great fall.  Please see below for some important tennis updates during construction and a recap of our wonderful summer programs!  We hope to see you on the courts.

Court usage & parking during construction:
While the pool is undergoing construction (until May 2023), court 1 is being used to store pool equipment – please avoid playing on this court unless all other courts are occupied.  Also during this time, the parking lot is to be used for tennis/pickleball players only.  Please park along the two sides of court 1, while the rest of the parking lot is reserved for use of construction vehicles.

Court 5 has some bike tire marks and a dent in the court.  Please note, and inform your kids, that bikes, skates, roller blades etc are NOT allowed on the courts.  We spent a lot of money to refinish these courts last year and any added maintenance costs will affect our construction budget, so it is important that we take utmost care to protect and preserve our facilities.

Tennis players list & socials/practice times:
HMSTC-TENNIS PLAYERS LIST
We plan to use a shared list to communicate with active players, so please click on the link above and add your name to this list if you would like to connect with other players and receive regular communication from the tennis players group.

We are planning to start tennis socials on Tuesdays, Thursdays (5-7PM) and/or Saturday mornings (9-11AM), depending on the signups. When you add your name, please indicate your interest in playing at socials or for joining the team.  Robby Tucker and Jane Runnels will lead the social sessions initially, but feel free to contact anyone on the list and schedule a time to play.

Summer recap:
PTY programs: We had an outstanding turnout for summer camps and clinics. There were plenty of kids at camps returning to hone their tennis skills, and new kids joined to learn the game, while also enjoying a refreshing dip in the pool during the hottest part of the day. With our profit sharing arrangement with our coaching partners at PTY, we generated over $15,000 in revenue from just this summer’s tennis programs.  These funds support our construction and maintenance budget.

Youth summer league, MVCT: our youth team competed extremely well this season, with some entertaining matches in all age brackets.  The kids have made a tremendous improvement in their game over the past couple of years, and with new players joining the team, HMSTC is looking good to dominate Mt Vernon area tennis for years to come.

Women’s tennis team: The Fort Hunt area Women's Tennis League completed a successful summer season.  The Hollin Meadows team worked hard, had fun, and came in 3rd place among the six local teams.  We congratulate all the players that participated including:  Eva Absher-Schantz, Adele Chapin, Lynn Cheng, Kim Dwyer, Mutsa Elting, Eileen Huck, Jennifer Hutton, Kelly Jeffers, Michelle Lehman, Mary Myers, Jane Runnels, Denise Shauer, Kim Tran, Rachel Weaver, and Stacey Wierzba.  The league will be returning next summer, so consider joining!

Men’s tennis team: After having participated in the summer league in the past, we had to skip this year due to inadequate number of committed players.  We hope to rectify this by recruiting new players this fall and next spring and having social tennis and practice sessions on a weekly basis (see item 2 above, and sign up to stay informed about tennis activities.)

Thank you,
Nelson Lobo
