John Kennedy Bingham Memorial Series
Episode 1: Right to Organize

The People's Migration Challenge (PMC) is launching a new series called "People's Migration Challenge Round 6: The John Kennedy Bingham Memorial Series." This round will focus on current global campaigns as well as important migration issues to develop joint campaigns around, and to mobilize advocacy for policy change at the international, regional, national, and local levels. Migrants and their experiences will be at the center of these discussions as the main purpose of the People’s Migration Challenge (PMC) is to bring grassroots voices to global stages.

The series will be held from 27 September 2022 until 26 September 2023 (from 9:00am-10:30am EDT on last Tuesday of each month).

The first episode of the John Kennedy Bingham Memorial Series will delve into the ongoing global campaign for the Right to Organize of migrant workers, and it will feature the following speakers:

UNNM Updates

Fourth Annual Meeting
The fourth annual meeting of the United Nations Network on Migration (UNNM) will take place on 18-19 October 2022 at the Palais de Nations in Geneva, in a hybrid format with a multilingual platform (EN/FR/SP), though in-person participation is highly encouraged.

Occurring five months after the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) of the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), the annual meeting is an opportunity to present and discuss the latest Network workplan of activities for 2022-2024, stemming from the IMRF and its Progress Declaration; the next round of regional reviews; and how the global, regional and national level networks can best link together to maximize coherence and impact. A discussion space in which inputs can be made to this workplan is here.

A draft agenda and registration link will be circulated soon. For more information, please contact amuedin@iom.int.

2022-2024 Workplan Now Available for Feedback

The UNNM recently released its draft workplan, highlighting both new and ongoing priorities to support implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM). This draft covers the period 2022-2024, aligned with the second cycle of regional reviews of the GCM and the next report of the Secretary-General to review the status of the implementation of the GCM, both scheduled for 2024.

This draft is informed by the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) in May 2022, the Progress Declaration, and the pledges made by Member States, United Nations entities and stakeholders, as well as from deliberations within the Network’s Executive Committee and from over 200 responses to the questionnaire shared with Network members and stakeholders in July and August 2022.

This workplan remains a draft and seeks to be further informed and improved by the Network membership, stakeholders and Member States.  In soliciting feedback, UNNM is specifically asking:

  • Does the workplan capture a comprehensive plan to support GCM implementation over the next two year period, building on the Progress Declaration?
  • What other priority areas should the Network consider in providing support for GCM implementation?
  • Which priority areas are of particular interest to your entity?

A discussion space to receive your feedback and queries is provided on the Migration Network Hub at Draft Network Workplan 2022-2024 (un.org) and will continue through 7 October 2022

Note: you need to have an account on the Migration Network Hub to participate in online discussions. For those who do not have an account yet, you are invited to create one here. Once created, you can contribute and share inputs in the discussion space by logging into your account. If you face any difficulties, please contact GCMHub@iom.int.

UNNM anticipates finalizing this workplan at its annual meeting on 18-19 October at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, to be endorsed by the Network’s Executive Committee at the Principals level when they next meet before the end of the year.
