The Forestry Corner is a monthly collection of woodland-related events, resources and updates from OSU Extension for our neighbors in Marion, Clackamas, and Hood River counties.

Community Forestry Days at Hopkins
Current projects include: milling and finishing siding and trim for the Outreach Center, trail reconstruction, and invasive weed removal.

Basic Forestry Shortcourse - North Willamette Valley 
This five-session course is ideal for people who are new to taking care of woodland or forested property. We will provide a broad introduction to woodland types, forestry practices, and terminology.

Reforestation Assistance Workshops 
Likely topics will include: assessing your situation, selecting species and types of seedlings, acquiring seedlings, site preparation for planting, protecting seedlings from damage, and maintenance throughout the establishment phase.

Managing Forests in a Changing Climate 
Forest owners and land managers are expressing increasing concerns about how to manage forests in a changing climate. We are planning a series of meetings to discuss recent research and findings.

Oregon Season Tracker Training 

Throughout the year, Oregon Season Tracker volunteers contribute valuable citizen science data to researchers while learning about local precipitation patterns and phenology. No experience is required to volunteer, the online training is free but you will need to purchase a rain gauge to participate.

The mission of the OSU College of Forestry's Oregon Tree Tappers is to promote and provide training to landowners, land managers, and others in Oregon with an interest in commercial tapping of bigleaf maples and other hardwood trees for food products. 10-Minute University™ - Emerald Ash Borer
Dr. Gail Langalletto, Professor of Horticulture at OSU, presented about the emerald ash borer at a recent OSU Clackamas County Master Gardener Association meeting. The video can be found on the OSU Extension Service website here.
