Check out this cool new opportunity from the College Essay Guy!

Hi friend,

Next week, I'm excited to host a brand new, never-before-hosted session especially for parents in our brand new CEG Parent Community on:
How Selective Colleges Review College Applications
Sept 27, 4-5pm PT (7-8pm ET)

In this session, Laurén Carter (former Director of College Admissions at NYU), Tom Campbell (former Admission Officer at Holy Cross and Pomona College) and me (Ethan Sawyer, College Essay Guy) will be hosting a cozy conversation on:
  • What happens after you hit submit through when you receive your decision?
  • Essays: What do colleges look for in a great personal statement? How much do essays matter? Can they ever hurt your chances?
  • What makes supplemental essays stand out?
  • Does it matter which major a student chooses when applying?
  • Bonus: I'll be chatting with our guests and and we'll be reviewing potential essay topics together.

This session will be hosted in our brand new CEG Parent Community.

Join the Community & RSVP Here
Be well--

Ethan

Win the writing competition, win a trip to Washington, D.C. from June 17-23, 2023

The Congressional Essay Contest is run by NSCDA Corporate Societies and Town Committees across the United States. Sophomore, junior, or senior year high school students submit essays that are then judged and awarded.

The essay topic changes annually. This year the NSCDA asks students to:

Examine the US Constitution as a whole and explain why you think it does or does not fully protect the Right to Vote.”

Winners receive full tuition and travel to the Washington Workshops “Congressional Seminar,” a week-long civic-focused adventure in our nation’s capital. The seminar provides two meals daily and an additional per diem, university campus housing and access to world-class museums, government offices, and memorable tours. Are you curious about what to expect on this trip? Click here to check out a past itinerary or watch this 4:30 minute video.

Learn more about the Washington Workshops Foundation.

Students:

To Apply:

  • Digitally fill out the application
  • Write a compelling 750 word essay
  • Send in the application and essay to your state representative (contact dames@nscda.org)
  • Applications are due December 1

Note: Children and grandchildren of an active member of The NSCDA may not receive a scholarship to the Congressional Seminar. They are still eligible to participate. Email Mary Bradshaw, NSCDA Congressional Essay Consultant, at mary_bradshaw@comcast.net for more information.
