Updated and New Details for Australian Championships

New Version of Bulletin Two

There is a new version of the AOC2022 bulletin two and we recommend that you download this version and delete any earlier versions (for those who have been organised and we know many of us are).  There are some important changes in this bulletin and they include:

  1. Use of pre-allocated start times for Goldfields 3-Day and associate start procedure – see below
  2. Changes to course opening and closing times
  3. Changes to some start locations
  4. Some technical updates

Find Bulletin 2 v02 HERE for ink friendly version and HERE for standard version.

Potential weather related changes

Victoria has had a fair old dump o’ rain in recent weeks and we are making some contingency plans as a result. That could mean some changes to parking arrangements, and in extreme conditions to some start locations. Please keep checking Eventor and the AOC website for further weather related updates and be prepared to car pool (yes your car could be that wet).

Start Lists and EOD

Start Lists and Enter on the Day are on Eventor.

Changes to AOC Goldfields 3 days start procedure

The fantastic entry numbers for the Goldfields 3 Day meant it was important to have pre-allocated start times which will be printed on your running bib as for all the other events of the carnival. There is a 2 min pre start process described in the revised bulletin. There is no late start lane and late starters will be accommodated whenever possible.

Dress For Success for the Goldfields 3 day

To add some “fashions on the field” fun and frivolity to the Goldfields 3 days we are encouraging a “dress code” and there will be a winner and prize of local produce each day anointed by the commentary team. This is optional  but the prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • Goldfields 1- Sprint – Best “National” dress as it is a campus sprint this need not be an O-suit
  • Goldfields 2 -Mt Alexander – Best retro o gear or “most exotic”
  • Goldfields 3 –Chewton – Loud and Proud – we’re talking Hi Vis, Big Foot Pink that kind of thing.

You better start packing and the commentary team will remind you for the next day.

Newcomers Welcome Person Sought

A Newcomers Welcome Person is sought for the Wednesday Twilight Series starting on Wednesday 19th October. Orienteering can be a daunting sport for newcomers. The purpose of this role is to welcome newcomers to our sport and to be a familiar face from week to week to assist newcomers as they learn our sport. A mark of success will be to see newcomers returning for event after event.

This is a paid position and would suit a friendly outgoing person who can attend most (but not necessarily all) of the Twilight Series events. The role is suited to someone who has had least 12 months orienteering experience and who is willing to provide introductory guidance and encouragement to newcomers. You will have the opportunity to take part in all the events if you wish. There is a small amount of equipment to be taken and set up for each event: a table, banner, poster and promotion material. The Newcomers Welcome Person would be asked to provide regular updates to the OACT Board.

If multiple suitable nominations are received, OACT may select more than one person for the role, enabling one person to remain at the Assembly Area while a second person accompanies Newcomers to the Start and shadows them for the first controls.

Please email expressions of interest to the office (office@act.orienteering.asn.au).

Volunteers Sought for Spring SC-ORE

Helpers are sought to assist with the upcoming Spring SC-ORE primary school orienteering series. If you can help us out that would be great.
Spring SC-ORE 2022 will be held on Thursday mornings:

  • 20 October: St Monica's Primary School
    27 October: Maribyrnong Primary School
    3 November: Macquarie Primary School
    10 November: Majura Primary School

We need volunteers from 7am to just before 9am, with assembly set-up, in the tagging area and along the course as "boundary riders”.
Afterwards we meet for coffee, optional.
If you can only help out one or two of the events, that would still be very helpful and appreciated.

If you are able to help, or would like more info, contact Susanne Harrysson (sus.harrysson@gmail.com).

Volunteers Sought for Primary School Championships

The ACT Primary School Championships will be held at The Pinnacle on Wednesday 23 November.
Helpers are needed for various tasks throughout the day.
Please email Allison (allisonjones@me.com) if you are able to assist.
