To all entrants

The Bi-Annual Top Angler comp finishes next week 30.09.2022.

It has been a great six months fighting for Top Angler!
If you wish to continue the competition over the next 6 months (which will be even more sucessful over summer), you will need to pay your new entry fee.

This will be $10.00 for those who already have a measure mat, those who don’t have a measure mat (new entrants) will need to buy one.

The winners for the first 6 months will be announced early October.
Leader Board
Marine Reserve

In the last few issues we've provided reminders about the value of the Kapiti Marine Reserve in regenerating fish stocks and protecting our marine environment.
As our members may be aware, that success is encouraging illegal fishing and DoC is doing little to stop it.
We have taken the initiative in mobilising all the boating, fishing, diving clubs in our area to write to the Minister and Prime Minister and the letter can be found on the "click to Read" button

Financial tractor members- The tractor lockbox will be changed on Monday the 3rd of October.
An email will be sent to all financial tractor members with the change.

Note From The Tower

The tower will be manned again from the beginning of October through until the end of May 2023.
It will be manned on all weekends and Public holidays. Plus each day from Boxing Day 2022 until February 06 (Waitangi Weekend) 2023 on days suitable for boating.
Remember the volunteers in the tower give their time to watch out for boaties so make use of them on CH77. There will also be a monthly prize draw for callers to the tower.

Special Note: for members who launch their boat with their own vehicle or tractor make sure that you continue to give all the details of your boat, trailer and vehicle to the club each year so that in an emergency someone can be contacted.

Research

My name is Alex Burton, I am a PhD student at Massey University.
The focus of my PhD research is to examine aspects of the biology of school sharks, such as their reproduction, growth, movement, habitat use, and pollution, to help improve the management and conversation of this species worldwide.

As part of this research, I need to collect data from school sharks from around New Zealand.
My team and I would greatly appreciate help from fishers and the public nationwide to gather this data and would like to get in contact with fishers/the public along the Kapiti Coast.

If fishers or members are interested in helping with the project, please get them to send me an email at a.burton@massey.ac.nz and I will send through an information pack that gives some background on the project, explains what needs to recorded when a school shark is encountered, and other ways people can get involved in the project.

On another note, if any fishers would be interested in donating any school sharks that are killed during normal fishing practices, please get them to contact me on this email or 0224005009 before they consider donating any specimens, and I will send some further information through.
