Welcome to the monthly update of the EuroCHRIE 2022 dedicated newsletter. In this issue we have many exciting updates for you!
The 38th EuroCHRIE conference in Apeldoorn is fast approaching. It will be the first EuroCHRIE conference post-Covid to be fully hosted on-site; we all are more eager to travel, meet old acquaintances, and create new ones; as a result, vast majority of registrations we have received are physical attendance. Therefore, we will not proceed with online conference due to a very limited number of online registrations.

Directors of 5 Dutch Hotel Schools Open 38th Annual Conference with Panel Discussion

Technologies and social development has been immensely effecting hospitality, tourism, event industry in the past a few years. Dutch Hotel Schools, University of Applied Sciences, have been seen leading the education and research in the past years in many area. The conference attendees will be inspired by all 5 hotel school directors opening panel discussion which will occur between 9.00 and 10.30 CET on October 25, 2022. They will reflect the current and immediate past development within and outside of their schools. They will also share their thoughts and vision on future education and research to bring the gap closer between talent and job market, as well as innovation and societal impact is driving institutes to a more sustainable future. We are excited to hear from them and surely this will give inspiration and serves perfect role as grand opening of the conference.

Workshop "Guest Expectations vs. Reality"

Between 11:00 and 12:30 on October 26, 2022, Tania Sidokpohou from Cloudbeds will provide a workshop "Guest Expectations vs. Reality".

Between the pandemic, rise of on-demand services and remote work, guest expectations are dramatically different from just a few years ago. Guest expectations are changing and growing at a critical time for the industry when costs are higher, available labor is shrinking and technology is evolving faster than ever - making it harder to keep up.
In order to create a better overall guest experience and increase bookings, hospitality businesses have to first understand what the new expectations are and how to accommodate them. In this session, Cloudbeds’ Tania Sidokpohou will break down guest expectations, the factors shaping them and the technologies that will help hoteliers exceed them, today and tomorrow.

STR Industry/ Education / PHD Student Workshop "European Hotel Industry Update"

PhD Student/Junior Researcher Workshop "Publishing in peer reviewed journals: A necessity for the dissemination of knowledge"

Abstract: This workshop will discuss how best to publish good research in good journals for starting academics. What are good journals, how to get started in the academic research community, how to align your research with the right journal, how to structure your writing? Finally, how do you get your research paper published in the right journal.

PhD Student/Junior Researcher Workshop "Career Paths for Doctoral Students - It begins with the Research Project not the Degree"

Abstract: On contrary to the common belief, academic careers do not begin with doctoral degrees but with selecting the dissertation chair and the research topic. We plan to share strategies on how to plan a doctoral program successfully and manage academic careers carefully through the tenure process and beyond. We plan to share our experiences in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Our presentation includes real examples of dos and don’ts of doctoral education followed by a Q&A session.

PAPER & POSTER STATISTICS

Since last April the Scientific Committee has been working hard to review 102 manuscripts for EuroCHRIE 2022. We received 72 papers, 28 posters and 2 presentations for the lecturers lounge. They addressed different topics including customer behavior, competitive pricing, metaverse, education, and development. After the review round, all the authors received feedback, and the majority of them are ready to join us in Apeldoorn.
