Dear Friends,

THE DEATH OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
I would like to thank all who were involved in making the period of mourning so special for our church and wider community.  We had numerous visitors to the church to sign the Book of Condolences, much-appreciated church services, bell ringing and screenings of the vigil and funeral service.    Thanks to all concerned.

AN EVENING WITH GRAHAM KENDRICK
We were blessed to have Grahm Kendrick with us and 185 people joined him from the Group Ministry and beyond.  Huge thanks to all who helped in numerous ways and to those who donated during the interval.  We raised £510 for Compassion UK.  Click HERE for more details.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID COURSE
St Martin’s has organised a Youth Mental Health First Aid Course provided by Mental Health First Aid England, which will be taking place in the Canterbury Rooms on Saturday 1st and Saturday 8th October 2022. The course is independently run, free of charge, and designed for anyone who works, volunteers, lives with, or supports young people aged between 8–18yrs. The course will teach the skills and confidence required to spot the signs of a mental ill-health episode and offer the ‘first aid’ guidance and support required. The MHFA course won't teach you to be a therapist but will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis. Your training may even help prevent a crisis from happening. The course will also give you the information and skills necessary to look after your own mental health so you can set an example for others.
We have invited those who work or volunteer with children and youth in our community to participate in the course. We have teachers, Scouts leaders, Football Coaches, childminders, and other church leaders taking part. We have just a few spaces remaining on the course and want to offer this incredibly worthwhile course to others within our church family who feel this training would benefit the young people they encounter, be that their own children or those they work with.  The remaining places will be offered on a first come first served basis, so please let us know asap if you would like to take part or learn more about what is involved. To read the fact sheet for all the details click HERE.

LPA's and WILL TALK - ST LAWRENCE CHURCH : FROM REV MANDY AT EFFINGHAM AND LITTLE BOOKHAM
How much do you know about Wills and Probate? What about Lasting Power of Attorneys?
You may be very organised and have all this in hand, or you may be like hundreds of other people who have put off thinking about it, or are a little embarrassed to say that you don’t really understand it all.
If you are in the latter (majority) group then you may be interested in attending a free talk by Caroline Mahoney, one of our parishioners. Caroline is a qualified lawyer and a Wills and Probate specialist. She has offered to give a free session explaining the ‘whys and wherefores’ of writing a will or organising a LPA. She will also explain Probate. No question will be too basic or ‘silly’!!  Caroline does not intend to advertise her own services, it is simply to help you understand how these legalities work.
In addition, Issy, who works for the charity: ‘Hourglass’ which protects the elderly from abuse (largely financial) will also be available to pass on some tips.
The free session will take place at 11 am on Wednesday 19th October in St Lawrence Church, Effingham. Refreshments will be served from 10.45 am.  We look forward to seeing you there.

THIS SUNDAY ON YOUTUBE
Please note that we are not able to live-stream this Sunday.  However, we will try to record the service and upload it during the day.  Please check our YouTube channel.

Every blessing,
Renos

THE FIFTHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit
upon your Church in the burning fire of your love:
grant that your people may be fervent
in the fellowship of the gospel
that, always abiding in you,
they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
AMEN.
