ICW Updates

ICW 2020 Survey of owners of apartments in ‘earthquake-prone’ buildings in Wellington - final report released

This report paints a grim picture of the financial burdens imposed on owners based on flawed policy development process and a policy case where the costs far exceed the benefits, especially for owners in affected apartment buildings.

ICW will be calling on the next Government to progress the actions outlined in our submission to the Select Committee, and urgently commission an independent review of the legislation with respect to multi-owner residential buildings.

We will be seeking views on this from candidates at the Wellington Central Candidates Meeting on Tuesday 18 August. This report has been circulated to the Minister of Building and Construction, Wellington Central MP, Minister of Finance Grant Robertson, James Shaw and Nicola Willis, along with Mayor Foster, councillors, WCC CEO and officers, and the media.

Open Consultations

  • Consultation is open on options for the Central Library. View the proposals and give your feedback. Consultation closes 7 September at 5 PM. ICW have requested clarity from WCC regarding the Library consultation document. We urged all interested members to comment on our article on Scoop
  • The Whaitua Te Whanganui-a-Tara Committee is a group of local residents, mana whenua, and council representatives, from the Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Wellington working together to plan for a better future for water. They are looking for feedback on a variety of topics related to water.
  • Consultation on the Draft Spatial Plan is now open. Check out the Planning for Growth website to see the plan and give your feedback. Last week, WCC hosted a panel discussion about the plan - you can view it here
