Dear Parents/Carers,

The term is quickly passing us by and again we have had to manage challenges that COVID-19 has been presented. Thank you to everyone for your cooperation, particularly our Victorian families who have had to keep abreast with the ever changing situation with permits. Our safe COVID practices remain in place including our staggered pick up. Please be mindful of social distancing while you are waiting for your children.

A reminder that all students are required to stay at home if they are unwell, particularly if they are displaying cold/flu like symptoms. Current advice from the CSNSW and CEDWW  is that even if a child is  presenting with the mildest symptoms, they need to have a COVID test and not return to school until the negative result has been received. Keeping unwell children at home also eliminates the possibility of sharing viruses with other students and staff. Information can be found on the NSW Government website.

This term the staff have been able to re-engage with our work through the Learning Collaborative. Our data walls have been updated and there has been much professional dialogue around student growth and where to go next, particularly in the areas of English and Maths. This is an ongoing project and will allow us to have a tangible way of tracking student progress over time.

A massive thank you to all the families who donated blankets to the Vinnies Winter Appeal this year. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

First Eucharist
First Eucharist will be celebrated on Sunday, 25th October at 11.30am in St Patrick’s Church. The Year 3 children, who are baptized Catholics, will have the opportunity to receive their First Holy Communion. A note will come home soon explaining the COVID restrictions that will impact our sacramental celebration this year.

Confirmation
The new date/dates are still being explored. The children continue with the Confirmation Program in their RE lessons.

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel last Sunday we encountered that famous conversation between Jesus and Peter. Jesus asks his disciples, “who do people say that I am?”

Matthew 16:13-20

“Jesus said, ‘Who do you say I am?’. Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God’. Jesus replied, ‘Simon, you are a happy man! So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And not even death will be able to overcome it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.’”

Family Prayer

Lord Jesus,

You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Our Saviour and Redeemer.

Amen

Next Sunday, 30th August, is Social Justice Sunday. In the 2020-21 Social Justice Statement, ‘To Live Life to the Full - Mental Health in Australia today’  the Bishops of Australia encourage faith communities, governments and each one of us, to make mental health a priority.

Hooray!
The EALD class has just harvested its  first crop of bok choy from the St Patrick’s Vegie Garden.
We have been working hard this year cultivating garden beds, weeding, planting seeds and seedlings, and now finally enjoying some produce.
Our next crop will be broad beans in the Springtime, which we intend to use to make a delicious soup. We have also planted sweetpea, herbs, cauliflower, and a variety of root vegetables. Unfortunately, not all our plants have grown well. But we have learned a lot about growing plants, and  we will use our mistakes to help us plan a better garden for next season..

We look forward to growing  lots  more healthy food in the future.

Stay tuned,  and watch our progress……….

Holiday activity for Primary Students
Looking to keep your kids active during the next holidays? On the Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of each of the two weeks (September 28 to October 9), Albury Wodonga Table Tennis Association (AWTTA) will be conducting Spinneroos sessions from 2.00pm to 3.00pm.

Spinneroos is a fun way to learn basic skills for Table Tennis and these are useful for other sports as well. It is set up for kids up to 10yrs and AWTTA’s five session leaders will also offer more advanced play and learning if older kids wish to attend.

Find out more at
https://www.spinneroos.com.au/home/ and you can book by clicking on the CURRENT PROGRAMS icon.

The cost includes a T-shirt and some equipment. AWTTA is a provider for the Active Kids Voucher, so one or two $100 vouchers can be applied to this program, club registration and further sessions.

We are looking forward to helping your kids enjoy their holidays with this fun activity, when so many other exercise opportunities are not available.

Terry Caldwell (AWTTA President)
