Fearrington Farmers' Market
Tuesdays, 4 - 6 pm
April through November

Let's spend more time outdoors!

Good morning!  Labor Day weekend is approaching, and although it's probably best to stay away from large gatherings this year, we can still enjoy an outdoor picnic with family and a few close friends.  The market has plenty of summer veggies, meats, and more to fill out your menu.

It's definitely pepper season, and jalapeno poppers make a great portable snack.  I'm partial to this open-faced baked version made with cashew cheese, but hey, you can certainly grab some Beechcrest bacon and go all out if you wish!

How about a lightly-dressed potato salad, using a mustard-y vinaigrette instead of heavy mayonnaise dressing?  This recipe adds dill pickles to the mix (which you can also find at market)!

Need more ideas?  Here's a stash of picnic-worthy recipes including veggie salads (many of which don't require lettuce -- I know it's hard to find in this heat!), sandwiches, finger foods, and more.

Beechcrest Farm thanks all our old and new customers for their continued support at market this year!  We'll have bacon, farm sausage, beef brats, stew, ground, and patties, along with a good variety of steaks.  The slightly cooler weather means hopefully roasts, soups, and stews are just around the corner.  We have you covered on the meats and bones you'll need for those, no worries!  See you Tuesday.

Bold Bagels will be at the market this week!

And come take a picture of our okra recipes for ideas!

We also have homemade hot pepper relish, sweet crunchy pickles, kosher dills, sweet and sour pickles, pickled beets, cucumber relish, pickled okra, pickled squash, honey, jams, and pepper jellies!  Plus fresh-baked banana bread with nutmeg and ginger!

Come get sun-loving ornamental peppers that range in color from yellow to black with orange, purple, and red in between!  We'll have a variety of Succulents, Coleus, and Spider plants too.  Snake plants, Moses In the Cradle, and Aloe make great shady houseplants!

Perry-winkle Farm

A new bed of arugula is ready, so we will have a cooler full of arugula at market this week.  Unfortunately we have been selling out before everyone who wants some is able to get any so please know that we will be picking even more now that we have this new planting.  We will also have a cooler full of basil.  We will have both 1/2 pound bags for those folks wanting to make some pesto and we will have some smaller bags.  A question that we get asked is how to store the basil without it turning black like it will if refrigerated.  We recommend closing the basil bag so it is airtight, and then leave it on your counter or somewhere that is cool and out of the sun.

We will be bringing bushels of three gold flesh potatoes: Huckleberry Gold, German Butterball, and Bintje, along with our red-skinned, pink flesh Terra Rosa. In this "Covid-19 Era" we will be doing the bagging for you, but we want you to be able to pick exactly which potatoes you want and to be able to continue "Mixing n' Matching" from the varieties we have.

Another round of glads is blooming, so look for those along with a bucket of colorful zinnias.  There will also be lots of mixed bouquets on the flower rack.  And there will be some eggs from our pastured hens.

with gratitude,
