A Letter to our members from Ranee Berg:
Small town commerce
My dad moved with his parents and sister to St. Ignatius, Montana from Hanford, Washington when the government bought out farms and ranches for WWII operations. My grandparents weren't’t familiar with the area, coming only on the recommendation of my grandma’s aunt and uncle and a quick scouting trip. Besides painting houses & buildings, my grandfather did odd jobs, worked occasionally at the saw mill, drilled with the National Guard on some weekends and just did what he could to support his family while grandma kept their little shack spic and span, gardened & canned, sewed clothes, and otherwise oversaw the upkeep of the chickens, cow, dogs, etc. As often happens, the aunt & uncle moved shortly after they got there & the community of St. Ignatius became their extended family.
That feeling of a small town community is what drew our family to eventually move to Three Forks. We had a couple friends but are at least a few hours away from family. The people we serve in the chiropractic office have become our dear friends. They are neighbors we see at the post office and grocery store, fellow church members, our children’s classmates/teammates and their families, business owners from down the street and their referrals. Even before the CoVid pandemic, often people give our business a try because they want to support someone local. Some people walk down the street and see our open sign and decide to check our office out. They are truly interested in us and our family as people. They want us to prosper, recognizing that the more we invest in each other, the better our community is.
I see that same care given to other Three Forks businesses and community members. When one business owner had a bad day with a customer yelling and throwing things, another business owner brought them pie. When the students at the high school were missing proms, sports and other milestones, businesses and community members put up signs, organized gifts and put on an amazing outdoor graduation for the Seniors. When gathering restrictions were put in place, Cruise Night became a thing and residents supported curbside, take out & delivery options . When someone needs a job, a place to rent, yard work done, help finding a lost pet, or a few things at Costco, community members are quick to volunteer to assist.
The Three Forks Chamber of Commerce strives to be one of those wonderful resources for our community, extended family and friends, truly vested in helping each other succeed. We value each contribution you make as an individual and business! We welcome your input and involvement in the Chamber to make it truly represent Three Forks.

A little Montana history...
Chan Romero
Robert Lee "Chan" Romero was born July 7, 1941, Billings, Montana
and is an American rock an roll performer, best known for his 1959 song,
"Hippy Hippy Shake".
Romero's father was Spanish and Apache while his mother was Mexican, cherokee and Irish! Both had migrated to Montana during the Great Depression, seeking employment as migrant farm workers.
Romero cites a major turning point in his life was in 1956, the year Elvis Presley performed "Hound Dog" on The Steve Allen Show. Presley was Romero's biggest influence prior to the arrival of Ritchie Valens.
As a teenager, Chan Romero hitchhiked to Los Angeles, California in 1958, where he wrote "Hippy Hippy Shake" and thus launched his career.
It was during this time that Chan also heard Ritchie Valens and became musically influenced by him.
An uncle introduced Romero and his music to an A&R representative from Specialty Records (Sonny Bono). Bono was particularly taken with a song called "My Little Ruby" and asked Romero to polish the song and to return in a few weeks. However, Romero needed to return to school in Montana and never returned to Specialty.
Chan formed a band upon his return to Montana and it soon
became clear that Valens had a tremendous impact on Romero,
so much so that the two artists, who never met,
sounded alike and shared much the same ethnic heritage.
Two months after the plane crash that claimed Valens' life,
Romero's manager Don Redfield sent a tape to
Valens' manager, Bob Keane, in Los Angeles.
Keane was greatly impressed with the recordings
and hailed Romero as a successor to Valens,
immediately signing him to a contract on
Del- Fi Records, the same label as Valens.
Ritchie Valens
When Romero returned to Los Angeles, Keane introduced him to Valens' grieving mother and she and Romero became close. Her home served as Romero's home during his visits to Los Angeles; he slept in Valens' bedroom. He remains close to the family and has performed at the Ritchie Valens memorial concert held yearly in Pacoima, California.
Romero's career skyrocketed with the release of "Hippy Hippy Shake" in July 1959. Released first in the United States and later in Australia and in the UK. It then came to the attention of Paul McCartney who liked the song and sang it at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, at the Star Club in Hamburg Germany, and during his early years with The Beatles.
