Supporting people as they navigate their grief journey is at the heart of what we do. Read on to learn about the ways Navian Hawaii provides this ongoing support, from bereavement groups to public memorial services to personal rituals, and opens the door to healing.

Find Healing Through Personal Rituals

The process of grieving is different for everyone, but most people will agree that it takes time to move through the healing process. Grief teaches us the power of our love and of our resilience. We must follow our hearts in order to navigate the healing process, and by implementing personal rituals into the recovery process, you can pave the way for hope, happiness and gratitude to re-enter your life.
As the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy once wrote, “Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.” Just as Tolstoy points out, it is only through love and appreciation that true healing can occur.

How We Heal

No matter how much time has passed, it’s important to remember, reflect on, and honor your loved one as you move through your individual grieving and healing process. As you work to overcome this change in your life, we encourage you to embrace support in the form of coping mechanisms such as your own personal rituals.

What is a Personal Ritual?

Not sure what a personal ritual is? Unlike more public gatherings like memorial services or wakes, a personal ritual is an intimate expression of love and loss. Personal rituals allow you to honor your loved one in a uniquely special way and, in the process, bring healing, compassion, and a renewed sense of hope into your daily life.

How to Create Your Own Personal Ritual

When creating your own personal ritual, reflect on the memories you made with your loved one and think about what stands out to you. Did you have your own song you danced to? Did you share a favorite hiking trail? Did you enjoy watching the same movie? Consider all of the memories and experiences that were unique to your relationship, and then create a personal ritual out of it. Whatever you choose, each day as you immerse yourself in your ritual, you direct your thoughts and actions to the person and their memory, deepening your appreciation for them. By allowing love and appreciation to flow freely through your thoughts and actions, you embody the healing process described by Tolstoy.

Why is Making a Gift Through My Retirement Plan Assets Tax-Smart?

More than likely you have accumulated assets in plans such as 401(k)s and traditional IRAs. These are the assets that you use to enjoy life in retirement. Unfortunately, retirement assets carry a heavy tax burden when they pass to family through your estate – maximum taxation can reach nearly 70%.
However, when you leave these assets to charity, 100% of your gift is free from income and estate taxes, and your estate receives a charitable deduction, reducing the taxable size of your overall estate. You can make this gift by naming Navian Hawaii as a partial or sole beneficiary of your retirement plans. This gift arrangement is one of the most family friendly and simplest ways to make an important impact.
