Malcolm Has a Foster Home!

We’ve been begging for a foster home for our cat-hating, dog-neutral, old kitty with several health problems. One of our staff members took him home last week and we are so happy that he has a temporary placement. She has two dogs and one feral cat outside.

Does Your Employer Offer a Matching Gift Incentive?

Home Depot, Entegris, Dell, and many others do. Here’s a link to a search tool for companies with an employee matching gift program.

We hope to acquire more monthly donors. If you can spare $10, $20, or even $50 a month, please go to our website and sign up by checking the "Make this donation every month" box!

So many people have dropped out of our monthly giving program, we assume due to the pandemic. We’ve been going for 19 years, and I like to say that serendipity rules Thundering Paws. Please give serendipity a helping hand!

Cowboy

A worker at an Austin vet who lives in San Marcos found a tiny kitten at her apartment complex. Unable to provide him what he needs, she brought him to work. The vet’s office contacted Thundering Paws and we set about finding a foster for Cowboy.

By August, most of our sleep-deprived bottle baby feeders are exhausted. They are up several times during the night to feed kittens, express their bowels and bladder, clean up kitten and environment, and make sure they’re warm enough. They then set the alarm for a few hours later and fall back into bed.
Cowboy was around 10 days old when he was found. He will have to be nursed (thank goodness less and less often) for about 20 more days. He will begin eating gruel then. He will have learned to express his waste by then, but may need a little while longer before he gets “litter box.”

We have two bottle baby households who will tag-team with him. Nicole lives in Wimberley and works three days a week in Lakeway. Julie and Robert live in Dripping Springs and Julie works at Thundering Paws. Julie will keep him while Nicole is working. With all the attention he gets, Cowboy will be a loving baby. Look for him to be adoptable in the first week of November.

San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter’s Amazing Assistance

San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter (SMRAS) is allowing us to bring in four Hays County cats, feral or tame, to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated against rabies and other viruses every week for free. This is such a huge boon to our fledgling Trap/Neuter/Return program!

There will be weeks they cannot accommodate our animals as they must get all the cats and dogs brought in to SMRAS spayed/neutered first.

Trapping community cats isn’t an exact science. Last Monday evening our trapper, Mike, went to get one cat because we already had three to go to SMRAS. Two kittens got into the trap and SMRAS graciously accepted our additional feline. These two kittens seem calm around humans and we will try to tame them.

Now we need people willing to learn to trap, and drivers to and from SMRAS. We also need people experienced in fostering and taming kittens.

If you’re willing to learn to trap, we can teach you. If you could pick up four cats on Tuesday and deliver them to SMRAS by 10 a.m., or pick up four cats from SMRAS on Thursday at 9 a.m. and bring them back, let us know. If you have tamed feral kittens before and are willing to foster while taming, let us know.
