Who would have thought back at Nationals 2020 in Gisborne that the rest of the year would have turned out the way it has?
There's only one way we can go now and that is forwards doing what we all love in the summertime - Surf Club!
Recent Events
Annual General Meeting | We recently held our Annual General Meeting where we voted in the new committee and acknowledged the committee members who are standing down this season.
A special thanks to Karl Campbell (pictured below), who has stood down as Treasurer this season after years of service to the club as a committee member. We are all very grateful for everything Karl and Aida have contributed to the club over many years.
We are always thankful to those who volunteer their time to sit on the club committee, and this is no exception this year with those who have put themselves forward. It goes without saying that we should respect this group of people giving their time to do the work to be representatives of our various club groups.

General Information
Subs | You will find all subscription amounts and codes for each group on the Join the Club page on our website. Please call Jenna (021 239 4355) or John (027 473 5638) if you need to discuss subs.
We are really aware that this year will be a difficult year for a number of people in our community and we are 100% clear that no-one should miss out this season because of financial hardship. If you would like to talk through your membership options for next season please don’t hesitate to talk to Jenna or John.
Subs are to be paid into the club account before Friday 27 November. Please make sure you are using the correct code + name as your reference.
Club Uniform | A lot of effort goes in behind the scenes to ensure that Titahi Bay stands out on the beach – we’re one of the only green coloured clubs in New Zealand and, when we are dressed the same, it demonstrates that we are unified and a team. When on patrol you are expected to wear the full Lifeguard uniform and this must not be worn outside of patrol.
Patrol Uniform – is provided to all lifeguards. This includes red lifeguard shorts and a yellow long sleeved polo shirt. Jackets are available to use on patrol at the club and if you wish to purchase a lifeguard rash top to wear in the water on patrol, you can buy for $15.00. Sport Uniform – club togs are compulsory and must be worn when competing, as well as the club skull cap and hi vis rashie. Below are prices and pictures of what that includes. We have been able to source a new cut of bikini bottoms for the ladies which members will be able to buy later in the season (price and date TBC).
Club Merchandise | Club merchandise will be available to purchase throughout the season mostly on Sundays, however Jenna will be available on some weekdays as the season goes on. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for dates and times throughout the season. We are always open to new ideas and designs for our merch so please get in touch.
Working Bees | The clubrooms are always in need of cleaning and general maintenance so the committee is currently working on a list of jobs and setting a date for a working bee(s). As always it would be great to have as many of you as possible to be there. We will keep you updated on when that will be.
Facebook Groups | We have the following Facebook groups for you to join to keep up to date with all the information being put out. Get in touch with the name in brackets for them to add you if you are not already in the group.
Surf Lifeguard Award/Patrol Support Training | Trainings to gain your Surf Lifeguard Award or Patrol Support will be held on Thursday evenings and Sunday’s afternoons, commencing 17 September. These will either be at the surf club or at Te Rauparaha Arena
Candidates and parents can join the Facebook group – ‘Titahi Bay SLSC 2020/2021 Lifeguard Training’ for updates. If you are interested in joining our team of Instructors this season, please get in touch prior to training.
Patrol Roster | Construction of the patrol roster will commence once our season patrol dates have been confirmed. If you have received this email and do not intend on being involved in the club this season, please let us know so we can remove you from future correspondence. Remember in order to compete in sport you must be an active lifeguard and complete patrol hours to compete at carnivals.
Lifesaving Pathways | Gaining your Surf Lifeguard or Patrol Support Award is just the first step in becoming a patrolling member – SLSNZ offer all types of pathways for members, both qualified or not and we want to find out what it is you want to put into lifesaving this season. Whether it’s operating an IRB, learning more about first aid, coaching sport or instructing lifeguards, there’s all sorts of options! More information will be made available about upcoming courses, and members will be approached if it’s a qualification they need to gain in order to progress.
Look out for comms from Deborah Donkin or Georgia McLaren on the ‘Titahi Bay Lifeguards’ Facebook group when courses are coming up. You’ll also have the opportunity to sit down for a consultation closer to the season to find out more about each pathway stream.
IRBs | Dean Winter has recently taken over this area of the club and there will be more information to come over the next month. In the meantime you did have any questions give Dean a call and he’ll be happy to chat all things IRB.
Lifeguard Refresher | We will host a mass club refresher on Sunday 1 November 2020. There will be limited opportunities to refresh due to instructor availability this season so please make an effort to attend any club mass refresher days.
All theory testing will be completed online this year and more information about logging into the SLSNZ Member Portal to complete this will be made available closer to the season commencing.
Sport
Event Dates + Entry Fees | Entry fees are to be paid into the club account prior to an event. We cannot enter you or your crew into an event unless your subs + event entry fee is paid. This usually gets put up a few weeks before the event on the Facebook groups.

Accommodation | This year the club will not be doing any accommodation bookings for any events, so please sort any accommodation that you will need for away events yourself. Because of the ongoing rollercoaster that is Covid-19 please do be careful when making bookings, make sure that you can get a refund and or change the booking if things do change or get worse again.
Surf Official Level 1 Award
There's more to the sport pathway than just being an athlete. If becoming a surf official is something you are interested in finding out more about, please get in touch with Deborah Donkin.
You do not need to hold a SLGA to gain your Surf Official qualification.
Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club is an organisation that brings a lot of pleasure and fun, while serving the community and ensuring that no one drowns on Titahi Bay Beach. Whether you are a competing member, supportive parent, lifeguard, an ex member, a member who comes to train, coach, whoever you are - the reason we come to this wonderful beach and club is to enjoy the relationships that are formed between the people. To see our competitors grow and stand on podiums, to prevent drownings and save lives in our community.
We do this for a love of surf lifesaving and for the pure enjoyment of being active in the summer. Let us remember this when we speak to each other, let us remember this when we push send on an email or talk about others.
We all do this for fun and the love of the sport – here is to another great season, working together.
