One-to-one tutoring is highly effective at boosting learning outcomes but, in its traditional format, remains the privilege of an affluent minority. As online learning is set to become part of the ‘new normal’ for schools, virtual tutoring systems are poised to level the playing field. By continuously emphasising engagement and personalised feedback, virtual tutoring stands to benefit all students, regardless of their background. The affordability and universality of these technologies can make them the great equaliser educators are searching for.

The UK Government formed a Select Committee to respond to evidence on ‘the impact of COVID-19 on Education and Children’s Services’. Given the importance of ensuring that DfE catch-up funding is directed towards building a better and more robust educational normal for every student, parent and teacher in the future, here’s how we contributed to the conversation last month, drawing on key insights from our learning data and case studies.
