COVID-19 Food Relief Bags
Move to the Country

Dear friends,

The success of our COVID-19 relief bags cannot be measured! 250 bags have been distributed to Port-au-Prince health care workers and their families. We estimate the impact of this gift will touch the lives of 1000 people. Each bag represents about a month of provisions depending on family size.

We have learned a lot about how to go about this process with our first attempt. As we plan for our country-side distribution, we will make a few changes. Our first bags turned out to be very heavy, and in an attempt to provide relief for a greater number of people, we plan to reduce the quantity of some of the items. These bags will have to be carried a greater distance by each individual recipient, so this change will allow for an easier distribution process.

The cost of each bag will be approximately $40.00 USD. Since we will buy again in bulk, this purchase will represent a street value of $65.00 USD and $8,125.00 Haitian gourdes. The devaluation of the Haitian currency has affected all of us. When the Beehive first started working in Haiti, the ratio of value was $1.00 USD to $40.00 HTG. Just this week, the value dropped again to $1.00 USD to $125.00 HTG. The average citizen is working very hard to earn a small amount of money that can hardly purchase anything. The World Health Organization is predicting famine conditions throughout the country.

I report this news to help you understand how much these COVID-19 relief bags of food and product are going to help the people in the countryside.

Our plan is to start with our 20 school children, and work our way out from “The Pearl” (our country property), to as many families as our funds can reach. The funds you donate to this project will provide jobs for those who will package and build the bags for distribution, and of course, the “relief products” included--well you really would have to be here to realize what it will mean.

Quite honestly, every night when I go to bed, I am amazed that this population lives another day. Houses with dirt floors, mud walls, thatched roofs, and a piece of fabric for a door. Imagine this with potable water sometimes more than a mile away, little food, no provisions, no health care, no dental care, 110% humidity and I could go on and on. Our lives in the USA are so blessed--even as we experience the results of a pandemic and unrest--other parts of the world suffer under impoverished conditions that are unimaginable.

Help us help them is our continuing theme as we provide as many COVID-19 Relief Bags as possible to those that live with us, work for us, and live near us in the community of Bohoc, Haiti.

My best,
Jonathan Euler
