FEEDING THE WINE BEAST
We've got a large amount of new and familiar wines on the way and arriving this week. It's a fantastic revolving door at the moment, things coming and going quickly, but we're also seeing the first releases of the 2020 vintage in Australia such as the Ochota Barrels and Delinquente wines mentioned below. We've also got a regular stream of our favourite natural wine producers from France and Italy such as Didier Grappe, Babass and Occhipinti arriving shortly. Get amongst it, and read on for some more detail...
THE BIRDS ARE BACK IN TOWN

One of our favourites is back in the shop - Didier Grappe is a cult producer who makes high energy, zero so2 wines from a very small vineyard surface in Saint Lothian. His Savagnins made in the ouillé (topped up) style are renowned for purity, length and electric acidity. We've scooped a couple of these as well as a wicked pet nat and a very special 2010 Vin Jaune.

The Savagnins are from two parcels; 'Longefin' with young vines and tonnes of energy, the other 'Traminer' from a massale selection of the Traminer mutation of Savagnin. Both are oyster shells and lemon curd for days, some of the most fun white wines you'll come across. Don't delay.

'These Savagnins are unbeatable at the price, they're up there with Bruyère and shit IMHO'

BABASS RESTOCK

Forget Susucaru, in France those who know drink Le Roc Cab. We've just restocked on the hyper glou glou Cab Franc cuvée from Loire Valley hero (and recent F**k That's Delicious casualty) Babass. This wine is a masterclass in depth, digestibility and drinkability. Tiny production and a loyal following in France means that Babass' wines are difficult to come across, if you've ever had his Grolleau 'Groll'n'Roll' or his incredible Chenin 'Josephine Anne Francois' you know that he can do serious and fun with equal skill and his wines are brilliant in that they mix the two. Wines of place that you can't stop drinking.

We have a few bottles of Roc Cab online now.
JUVENILE DELINQUENTES

Con-Greg Grigoriou, lord of the badlands, more commonly known as The Riverland, SA. Most likely if you get this newsletter you are familiar with the fun and funky Italo-inflected wines of Delinquente. We tend to run out of their wines in midsummer when demand for a well-priced pet nat is at peak, so the mid-August arrival of a new vintage is bittersweet. Suffice to say that these babies are a staple of the shop and at $25 a bottle they represent the best and most reliable value around. Nothing profound, but always interesting and packed with flavour, the southern Italian varieties sing in the hot climate of the Riverland. Hitting the store right now here.
OCHOTA BARRELS SPRING RELEASE

Taras Ochota has popped his head out of the green room to release his shiny new 2020 wines. If crusty surfer punk is your favourite genre of winemaker then you'll do well to open up this pit and drink some old vine natural wines from various parcels around McLaren Vale and the Hills. The Green Room Grenache is a prime example of the Ochota style, from organic 1946 dry grown bush vines, it's deep but light, full of interest. The Surfer Rosa is as light and pretty as he's ever done, a blush pink Rose of Pinot and Grenache. Texture Like Sun is a juicy light red assembled from Pinot Noir, Meunier, Gewurz and Syrah, drinking not thinking. Finally the Mark of Cain Pinot Meunier is one of our favourites each year which showcases this brilliant variety on it's own. It's all about pink florals, cherry and fennel seed, a beguiling mix.

Check out the Ochota spring wines online here.
'They held hands…and fell into it...like a daydream…or a fever…the sky was on fire…hallucinogen chromatic …kiss me…you’re beautiful.
(this was written when I was high drinking a bottle of this wine)'
