Forward Forward
Hello Timebank members and friends!

Wow, we are almost in September! As unusual as the year so far has been, August has remained true to form and been a quiet month. We have been taking the opportunity to have a little time off ourselves to spend quality time with our families now that we can move a little more freely. We hope that you have been enjoying the ability to see more of your close friends and family too.

"Act as if what you do makes a difference,
It does"

COVID 19 - UPDATE
In line with government guidance people are now permitted to have gatherings of up to
30 people outdoors.

Timebank has previously been restricted to meeting up to six people outdoors but due to
recent government changes we will now be able to invite more of you to join us and
other timebankers on our outdoor walks, social gatherings or skill exchanges.
The risk of transmission of Covid-19 is lower outdoors than indoors – the virus survives
for minutes outdoors but can live for hours on surfaces indoors. However, lower risk
outdoors does not mean no risk. We all need to stay alert and take personal
responsibility for maintaining a safe distance from each other and washing our hands or
using hand sanitiser regularly.
If you have Covid-19 you will need to self-isolate for 14 days or if you suspect you might
have Covid-19 you need to get tested and not attend any social gatherings until you
have the results and been given the all clear.
Wearing a face mask outdoors is optional and we know that some people are exempt
from wearing one, however if you feel safer wearing one please feel free to do so (it is
still a requirement to wear a face mask in shops).
Our online socials will continue, and we look forward to seeing you all online for a good
old natter.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our timebank members and friends
who have joined us on our outdoor walks and online socials. Your continued support
means everything to us.
Opportunities to exchange
Being on lock-down does not mean that everything stops, our main purpose as members of Timebank is to share our skills through exchanges to help others in our local community and beyond. Take a look below at some of the exchanges we have available and please get in touch if you would like to earn some hours or if you need a helping hand.
In Devonport we have a member who would like her garden furniture varnished. There are 2 chairs with a section of wood that joins them together acting as a small table. All resources will be provided. Please contact Zoe if you would like to earn some hours completing this exchange.
One of our organisational members - Four Greens Community Trust are looking for volunteer drivers who are happy to use their transport to deliver food parcels as part of the Help Hub. Please see the article further down in the newsletter for more information and contact your local Timebank Outreach worker if you are interested so they can arrange the swap and nicola.white.fgct@gmail.com to get signed up to start delivering!
We have had confirmation that mayflower 400 celebrations will now be held next year. In Ernesettle Timebank members are planning on putting together a number of activities to mark the date including a Oral History Project, exploration of the old ruins by the scout hut and a play!
If you are a keen sewer/painter/crafter/actor and would like to get involved in the creation of costumes, props or characters please get in touch with Sally.
Recent Exchanges

We have had a large amount of books made available to Timebank members to loan out, genres mainly being murder, mystery and thrillers. Timebank member Linda has been on the case and earning hours getting a list of them together. If you would like to see the full list of books available to borrow please get in touch with Sally or Zoe.

Borrow Don't Buy

What is Borrow Don’t Buy?

Borrow Don’t Buy is a library of things in Plymouth. They are like a normal library, but with THINGS instead of BOOKS! What kind of things? All the sorts of things you need.

Perhaps you’re doing some DIY and need a drill? Maybe you’re having friends over and you’d like a projector to watch a film on? Or you’ve got errands to run and could do with an electric bike to get around town? These are the sorts of things you can find at Borrow Don’t Buy!

Why buy an electric drill when you’ll only ever use it once? Join Borrow Don’t Buy and you could pay just a few pounds to have that drill for just the time you need it.

And it’s not just drills. There’s a good chance we just have what you need.

Cook and Care
Food Is Fun have a wonderful new project aimed at connecting people through food. A great opportunity to learn some new recipes and meet new people, take a look at the flyer below and get in touch with Tami if you would like to participate.
Jar Squad
JARSQUAD (currently co-animated by Rachel Dobbs, Tess Wilmot and me) is a project exploring circular economy/barter around food preservation, by bringing people together to preserve food, and address food surplus/glut, waste, hoarding, recycling, and to re-discover communal abundance, collective action, and conviviality.

Come see what local abundance has been harvested (rhymes with schnapples!) and work with us to put tasty stuff into jars.

No experience necessary, just a willingness to get involved & help us with some fruit prep and cooking, and give us some feedback. :)

We'll be gathering upstairs at Leadworks (170 Rendle St, PL1 1TP), so there's lots of room.
PLEASE let us know if you have accessibility needs - we are happy to work with Leadworks to make arrangements to welcome you.

We're keeping numbers low (3-4 people per hour so we don't exceed the 6 households rule).
Let me know which hour you're able to come by:
2-3pm / 3-4pm  / 4-5pm
BYO masks, and if you have jars or anything on the experimental exchange rate list (attached), bring em along but no obligation!

We'll have gloves, and hand-washing things and all the ingredients & equipment.

Hope you can join, and if not, perhaps save the date for the next assembly September 7 from 4-7pm (venue TBA)

Make your own facemask.

As we continue to move forward in getting together with others, shopping and travel we need to be sure we have our trusty facemask at hand. Here is a great video showing how to create a quick and easy mask using your old clothes. If you make your own masks please let us know, we'd love to see them!
A Dance To The Music Of Time

In honour of Robert Lenkiewicz’s Old Age Project, his paintings and stories. Molly is creating an ongoing project and future exhibition aiming to make a series of memorable portraits that highlight Plymouth’s older community at such a poignant time.

Dealing with the distancing measures right now, it's important for us to look out for our community, check in with neighbours and do what we can to stay positive and hopeful. Through this project Molly would like to illuminate the strengths of our community - as well as showing the significant isolation that Plymouth’s older generation are having to face and a represent a glimpse of how everybody is coping with it differently.
Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Molly to organise a meeting at a venue suitable to you. Contact Molly on 07804901207 or email mollybuddphotography@outlook.com.
Get Plogging!

Plogging: A combination of two words: jogging and Swedish phrase for pick up, 'plocka upp'. Started in Sweden by Erik Ahlström in 2016, plogging is an eco-friendly exercise through which people pick up trash while jogging or brisk walking as a way to clean up litter and also take care of their health.

In Ernesettle Sally will be starting up a Plogging group, if you are interested in getting involved please get in touch to find out more details.
Up The Creek

The latest version of Ernesetle's Up The Creek newsletter is hot off the press so if you would like to find out what has been going on in that area of Plymouth get in touch with
Sally and she will email you a copy.
Stay safe and well
