Bike Life Report Makes Strong Case for Cycling

84% of Dublin residents support building more physically separated on-road cycle tracks, even when this would mean less space for other road traffic. That’s just one of the key findings of the Bike Life report which was published this month by the National Transport Authority and Sustrans.

Pedestrian Street Trials Extended After Positive Feedback

Dublin City Council has announced that it is extending the operating hours of its pedestrian street trials to 11pm after receiving extremely positive feedback from the first weekend of the trial.

Phase 2 of Royal Canal Greenway Opens

The newest section of the Royal Canal Greenway was officially opened last week by Lord Mayor of Dublin, Hazel Chu. The new route is 750 metres long and links North Strand with the docklands, where it connects with the existing cycle route running along Guild Street.

We're not happy with the design for the Clonskeagh Road cycle route and we'd like you to make submissions on it too. The Love 30 Campaign has made its submission on Dublin City Council's proposed new 30kph speed limits. We've also made a submission on cycle parking in a new housing development in Palmerstown. Aldi has responded positively to our supermarket cycle parking survey. And if you missed last month's public meeting you can watch it back here!

It’s been a hectic month for Cyclist.ie! Our new Rural Cycling Collective published its Vision for Cycling in Rural Ireland, while next week we launch our Get to school on your own fuel national campaign which is all about practicing the school run between 15 & 29 August. On the website, there are new Clon Bike Cast podcasts available, news about funding for greenways, a review of Cycling Ireland’s new strategy and lots more!

News from the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF)

After more than four days of negotiations, 27 heads of government struck a deal and agreed on the EU budget totalling €1.82 trillion. This includes the regular 7-year budget (the Multi-annual Financial Framework) and the €750 billion Recovery Fund. ECF and its members are calling for a fair distribution of investments in the transport sector and on more cycling projects.
