Principal's Message

Good afternoon EGRMS Families,

On behalf of the entire staff at the middle school, I would like to welcome all families back to school.  Today marks the kickoff of the 2020-2021 school year and I could not be more excited to see the faces of all our students - both virtually and in-person. While we did experience some technical difficulties with our online programming today, I am so thankful for everyone's patience and grace as we worked through those glitches. We know there will be new challenges this school year that we will have to face and we appreciate your support as we navigate those challenges together.

I would especially like to welcome the 6th grade families to the middle school. For some of you, this may be the first experience that your family has had at this level. It's going to be a great three years together! The entire staff at the middle school is excited and honored to be able to partner with you in the next three years of your child's journey.

I would also like to welcome all of the new families to East Grand Rapids Public Schools. Thank you for joining our district and entrusting your child to our amazing staff. We are not only committed to developing the whole child through rigorous academic activities, but also to support each child's social, emotional and physical well-being.

We are excited for the 2020-2021 school year and everything that lies ahead.

If there is ever anything I can do to support your family, please let me know.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for regular updates regarding the middle school: @EGRMSPrincipal.

Sincerely,
Jeff Dykhouse
Principal

Pre-packaged sack lunches will be available to all families for purchase as well as to eligible free or reduced lunch students as applicable. Families may also elect to order only milk. All orders must be submitted using this online form.  The online form will accept orders through 6:30 a.m. each school day for delivery to students that day. Parents may order just one day at a time, for several days, or for the full two-week period the form covers. If you would like to apply for free or reduced price school meals, a meal application needs to be completed annually.  Meal applications are confidential and are available online at http://egrps.mealapp.org.

  • Middle School lunches should be picked up from the cafeteria.

Picture Day

  • Save the date for Picture Day, Monday, September 21st.
  • Retakes will take place on Thursday, September 24th.

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office. Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

Our first drawing will be on September 11.

Please ask your child to look around for overdue library materials.  There is a cart in the main office to collect items to be returned.  Any item belonging to EGR Public Schools will have a bar code on the back cover and a spine label.  Any item belonging to any building or classroom teacher may be returned to the middle school office.  Thank you for being mindful of these items.

Thanks for your support.

Announcements & Upcoming Events
  • For more upcoming events, please be sure to check with your child and reference the MS Calendar which may be found here.
  • EGRMS Daily Announcements may be found here.

Our East Grand Rapids branch of KDL is able to provide limited Teen Zone programming this year.  Every Thursday, beginning August 27th at 3 p.m., youth are invited to stop by to pick up a snack and to-go craft.  While supplies last, these items will be available in Room 105 which will allow for an easy-breezy, walk thru, grab & go experience.  Although KDL will provide most of the supplies for each craft activity, it is recommended that teens have some basic craft supplies at home (markers, glue, scissors, tape, ModgePodge, food coloring, painting and sewing supplies, and perhaps a hot glue gun).
