SERIES SPOTLIGHT

DRACULA, MOTHERF**KER!

Crime scene photographer Quincy Harker is the only man who knows it happened, but will anyone believe him... before he gets outlined in chalk himself? A pulpy, pulse-pounding graphic novel of California pych-horror from acclaimed creators ALEX DE CAMPI (Grindhouse, NO MERCY, Bad Girls) and ERICA HENDERSON (ASSASSIN NATION, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl).

Collects complete DRACULA, MOTHERF**KER! OGN

“Alex de Campi is one of the medium's unsung greats, a fiercely independent creative voice who's unlike anyone else you've read.” —Magdalene Visaggio

“Moody and hallucinatory, with breakneck momentum; an amazing art showcase.” —Kurt Busiek

“... Dracula absolutely is a power fantasy, but it’s not an attractive one. The brides and lady victims are there to spur the hero into action, that’s all. But the brides are the most interesting characters, if done well (and they never are). Why did they choose to marry Dracula? Why did Georgina Chapman marry Harvey Weinstein? Why did Melania marry Donald? Don’t say it was love; none of us are that naïve. Or at least, not love of the man. Love of what comes with him, sure, I’d buy that. They are victims, yes, but they are not the blameless and perfect sort of victim that popular narratives like. But that’s why they’re exciting. They thought they knew what they were doing, but it turned out to be ever so much worse than they expected.”—Alex de Campi SYFY WIRE

CLASSICS CORNER

MCMLXXV

AUTHOR: Joe Casey
ARTIST: Ian MacEwan
AGE RANGE: T+ - Teen Plus (16+)
SERIES TYPE: Limited Series
GENRE: Action & Adventure, Fantasy, Monster, Mythology, Superhero

COLLECTED AS: MCMLXXV TP
FORMAT: Paperback; 80 Pages
PUBLICATION DATE:
 May 14, 2019
ISBN: 9781534312159
DIAMOND CODE: MAR190085

SUMMARY: Meet Pamela Evans. Much more than a typical Manhattan cab driver, she also happens to be a badass monster fighter who wields an enchanted tire iron. Yeah, that’s right. Welcome to the year of her greatest adventure. MCMLXXV is modern mythology for a new generation, from JOE CASEY (NEW LIEUTENANTS OF METAL, JESUSFREAK) and IAN MacEWAN (PROPHET: EARTH WAR, SEX).

Collects MCMLXXV #1-3

“I had the idea first, the basic concept. A sense of the potential iconography of the thing. Then I worked on the characters, the story, etc. for a good while on my own. I like to keep things in the so-called "mystery box" for as long as possible. That's often the most creative time for me personally; there's no pressure, no judgments, no deadlines, just pure imagination. Once we dialed in Pamela Evans' look -- which was, for me, the most important element of the whole thing -- Ian got started on the various gangs and monsters. That kind of stuff is just pure fun. It's where the scratch-mix mentality really finds expression, and we both indulge in all our various influences, most of which you can probably see right there on the page..”—Joe Casey The Comics Journal

AGE RANGE: All Ages
ATTENDANCE: Unlimited
TIME FRAME:  1-2 Months (Rollout + Showcase Time)

SUMMARY: The holiday season is upon us! Whether your branch is open or closed, a holiday card-making program is a great way to show some celebratory spirit with your patrons!
  1. Invite your patrons to create their own holiday-themed cards, featuring your library or another focus of your choice (books, baking, anything!)
  2. Split your contest/showcase into three categories, kids, teens, and adults for more specialized audience participation.
  3. Give your patrons three weeks to submit cards either virtually, by email, or physically, via USPS.
  4. Make sure to offer a sign-up form with basic identifying information and clarify to patrons whether your preference is for original or copied work. You don't want people submitting entire oil paintings they're going to want back!
  5. Judging can be done by library staff or popular vote!
  6. Winners can consist of a lone contestant, top 3, or you can choose to showcase all contestants equally in an attendee-wide gallery.
  7. Winners can be showcased for the entire month of December.
  8. Tie this event to your collection by spotlighting digital crafting books and periodicals, fiction and non-fiction titles relating to relevant holidays, etc.

  • Spread cheer and provide inspiration to Make-A-Wish® San Diego participating children and families

  • Give experience and exposure to newer creators in the comics space

  • Provide new partnership and funding opportunities for both nonprofit organizations

Not only will these posters provide inspiration, hope and joy to the children, digital copies of each sketch will be compiled into an e-book for sale.
