School starts online, August 24th.

On August 11th, 2020 our Board of Directors voted to delay the start of school till August 24th and move all education to distance education for the first quarter of school. This is in response to the current COVID-19 crisis and uncertainty in the political/regulatory environment. While it breaks our hearts to not be able to see our wonderful students in person every day, we are excited to get the school year started and get learning again! As we near the end of the first quarter our Board of Directors will meet again to evaluate whether to open in-person or to continue conducting education via distance education.

Online Learning Format.

Online learning will be very different from what it was at the end of last school year. For Math and Language Arts, students will log into live daily Zoom sessions with their teachers. Science, social studies, and specials will be recorded and available within Canvas. Students will be required to engage in learning activities daily and all classes will be required.

Dress Code & Code of Conduct.

Students should log into Zoom meetings dressed and prepared to learn. Since what a person wears influences their mindset, students are strongly encouraged to wear their school uniforms during synchronous (live) Zoom courses. Students will not, however, be penalized for not wearing full uniform. Still, it is not appropriate for students to attend Zoom meetings dressed in pajamas, swimsuits, or clothing that is offensive or revealing in any way.

Parents should help students prepare for online learning by arranging learning spaces within the home that are clean and quiet. Learning spaces should not have distractions such as toys, pets, televisions, etc. While this may not be possible in all situations, every attempt should be made to provide a quiet, distraction-free learning space.

Students will be required to interact with their teacher and peers during the live sessions. Students should be visible in the camera during the duration of the live stream and actively engaged. Students that loop video or put pictures in front of their cameras to try and avoid participating will be subject to school discipline.

Canvas Learning Management System

Freedom Classical Academy will utilize the Canvas learning management system to deliver online content to our students during the 2020-21 school year. This system is much more robust than Google Classrooms and will allow us to host our Zoom meetings within Canvas, eliminating the need to log into multiple applications. Assignments, calendars, and course materials will also be posted within the system to help students succeed. Check out the email below to learn more about how to navigate within your child's Canvas account. Logins will be sent out for Canvas next week.

ClassTag, not so much

While we originally announced that we would be using ClassTag this year for our parent communication app,  we have been playing with it for the last week and we are already annoyed by the overabundance of ads. Unfortunately, the app won't let us turn them off either. So, while we like the functionality of the app, we won't expose all of you to endless ads for the whole school year. If you already downloaded the app, feel free to delete it. We are evaluating other options at this time and we will let you know where we end up as soon as we have a final determination.

Freedom Classical Academy has secured grant funds to provide free or reduced price school supplies to students at the school. We will be sending out an income verification form application and supplies will be distributed based on need. We hope to have that form finalized by the end of the week.
Freedom Classical Academy will be distributing school books and a limited number of Chromebooks next week. Chromebooks will be limited to one per family, based on need. Additional Chromebooks have been ordered and will be made available upon arrival. Please see the schedule below for pick-up and click the button to indicate Chromebook need.
