No need to miss out on these new books for kids just because you can’t browse the shelves in person! Simply place a hold on a title you like, wait for your hold notification, and then make an appointment at curbside to pick it up.

Teen Summer Reading Goal

Local teens have read over 1,080 books towards our 4,000 book goal this summer. If you want to join them, sign up online through Beanstack. Each book read equals a 25 cent donation to the Oregon Food Bank. We also found out that an anonymous donor will double whatever amount teens raise this summer, so you have extra incentive! Let's Read!

Online Owl Book Group
Friday August 28 | 10:30am-12pm

Join us for a book discussion of Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.

Ghana, eighteenth century: two half sisters are born into different villages, each unaware of the other. One will marry an Englishman and lead a life of comfort in the palatial rooms of the Cape Coast Castle. The other will be captured in a raid on her village, imprisoned in the very same castle, and sold into slavery. Homegoing follows the parallel paths of these sisters and their descendants through eight generations: from the Gold Coast to the plantations of Mississippi, from the American Civil War to Jazz Age Harlem. This extraordinary novel illuminates slavery’s troubled legacy both for those who were taken and those who stayed — and shows how the memory of captivity has been inscribed on the soul of our nation.

This event will be held online via Zoom. If you already receive e-mail from the Owl Book Group, you’ll receive a link for this meeting a few days before the event.

If you’re new, welcome! Please e-mail laurab@wccls.org to receive a link and password for the event a few days before it happens.
