 Dear <<First Name>>,

Dragons Newsletter- August 2020

As we approach our 8th week of small group training since lockdown easing began, we have been incredibly impressed how well our players have adapted to the guidelines, arriving  and checking in safely, heading promptly to their zones and staying in their allocated groups. We certainly have been following the Sport SG protocol of GET IN, TRAIN, GET OUT.

The Government inspectors have watched us closely over the weeks and we have received regular positive feedback as a club. This is a huge credit to you all and a special mention to our coaches who have spent considerable time each week planning the groups, tailoring the small training sessions and arriving early to set up ahead of training commencing.

Our parents and Safe Management Officers (SMO’s) have been amazing at volunteering each week to help with temperature checks and helping with the smooth running at training each week. A huge thank you to all of you, we really do have a wonderful Dragons community.

Many of you have been asking when we can return to our home ground UWC East. The latest news we have is  that UWC East as a school sent in a request last week to the CPE (Committee for Private Education) to allow outside providers including Dragons to return to their ground. However CPE reaffirmed that currently only UWC East students are allowed on campus until Covid-19 measures ease further. For now, we are very grateful for our good relationship with Centaurs who have confirmed field hire for Dragons until the end of September.
We will keep you informed and hope to be able to resume training at our home ground in the coming weeks.

After an action packed 10 weeks of training, the entire club will be taking a well deserved 2 week break from rugby for the weekend 29th Aug and 5th September. This coincides with some of our players returning to school and resuming after school activities and will give us all a good rest before we embark on another 13 weeks of rugby in the run up to Christmas.

Coach Deacon's Corner
Hello everyone,

Each month I will be writing a few lines in the newsletters and I would like to start off by saying how proud I am to be part of this fantastic club with over 450 players and 50 coaches across u5-u17 age groups and u10-U15s girls.

A huge congratulations to Naomi O’Grady (u7 coach) who has been exceptional in her coaching for Dragons since the circuit breaker.

Naomi’s strength as a coach has been in her ability to engage the players in her group that she coaches by creating a fun energised training.

It is great to witness a well planned and fun session that all the kids enjoy. Thanks Naomi and congratulations once again.

Our girls touch teams continue to grow steadily and we are delighted to welcome the very experienced Singapore National Touch player Jaz to our touch coaching team.

Jaz has played for the national women’s open team for the past 3 Touch World Cups. She started playing at age 17 and has become a key member of the SG National squad.

Jaz has Coached the sport for 8 years and enjoys sharing her experience and knowledge, making a positive difference to youth athletes through sport.

Jaz loves team sports because of the collective purpose of people working as one. She says “When you are part of the team, you are playing for something bigger than just yourself”

We welcome Jaz to the Dragons coaching  family.
Do Good and Send Love Campaign

A big thank you to our Dragons families that volunteered to help with SRU’s ‘Do Good, Send Love” campaign that ran last week. In celebration of Singapore’s 55th birthday, the scheme was set up to deliver over 6000 meals to disadvantaged seniors, families in need and the homeless from both Kreta Ayer-Kim and Kampong Glam divisions which are among the poorest neighbourhoods in Singapore.

Our Dragons community have also been involved in delivering food parcels to migrant workers over the last few months.  The spirit of rugby is incredibly powerful bringing sport and communities together. Thank you, Dragons, for caring.

Dragons Face Mask

We have had positive feedback from the club with regards to the Dragons washable, breathable, lightweight facemask that was trialled last week at training.

We are hoping to have a variety of adult and junior sizes available and the cost will be approx. $10 per mask. We are finalising the order and once they are available, we will let you know how to order yours.

Many thanks to U12 Coach Joe Norzlan for your help in facilitating the mask production.

Our online shop has been revamped to make ordering your Dragons kit and merchandise very simple. The FAQ answers most of your questions and we are excited to be getting our bucket hats very soon. Once these have arrived, they will be available to order online.

Just a reminder that we are very happy to receive outgrown boots and Dragons kit so that we can donate to charity and assist less fortunate kids in Cambodia who are in need of boots and playing kit.

Dragons Bucket Hats $30
Bucket hat sizes come in three sizes and are available to order from our online shop.

Refer a Friend and Get $50....

Although our numbers continue to steadily grow, we inevitably lose some players as they move overseas. We would like you to bring a friend for a free trial, once they are fully registered and signed up with Dragons you will receive $50 cash rebate. Tell your friends.....
