I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.

The times we are living in are uncertain, and we’ve had to develop an adaptability to deal with all  the things that have happened over the last year.  It is our faith in a God who loves us and offers us wisdom that gives us strength to carry on.  We do carry on, because that is what we must do.  As you “continue” to navigate the days ahead take a few minutes to read “Continue,” a beautiful poem by Maya Angelou.  You can find it here: http://sacompassion.net/continue-a-poem-by-maya-angelou/

                                                                 Blessings,
                                                                 Donna
Bless Meadows Students with Supplies
It's time for our annual school supply collection for Meadows Elementary School! This year we are being asked to provide the following items:
  • Dry erase markers
  • Gallon-sized plastic Ziploc storage bags
  • Supply boxes (sometimes called pencil boxes)
Items may be dropped in the church mail slot or the office. (Call to make sure the office will be open, or check the office schedule each week through the West Side Weekly newsletter.)
Are you minimizing your trips to the store? No problem. If you would like to make a cash donation, we can do the shopping: Checks may be dropped off or mailed. (Be sure to write “school supplies” on the memo line.) Or you can donate through Givelify at the bottom of this newsletter, on the app, or from West Side’s website by typing “school supplies” in the memo.
Please make your school supply donations by August 28.

Baskets for 2020 Tawakoni Gala Auction

West Siders, the challenge is on: What creative ideas can you come up for the annual Disciples Center Tawakoni Gala auction? Even if it is unsafe to meet in person for the November Gala, the auction can take place online.

Single items are welcome, and we also want to encourage groups to put together baskets.
The Jubilee Sunday school class is sponsoring a basket (or two) of kitchen and baking items. Anyone can purchase and donate kitchen items for these baskets through two Pampered Chef parties this month. (Kitchen items may also be purchased from other businesses). If you have questions, ask Barb K. or Sammie Hernandez for more details.

Suggestions for other basket ideas could include craft materials, a music or reading theme, or gardening supplies. Be creative and help support our camp program!

Topeka Rescue Mission Update

In tandem with the City of Topeka and United Way of Greater Topeka, we have created a program called Operation Food Secure, designed to engage our community to quickly get food to people who are in need and provide hunger relief to all those who cannot come to TRM or other social services.
"In some ways Operation Food Secure could be called, 'Operation Happiness in a Box,' both for the receiver as well as the giver. Thank you for standing with TRM in your prayers, volunteering and giving. May God bless you and your family as you remember when Jesus said, 'When I was hungry you gave me something to eat....when you did it for one of the least of these my brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me.'"
