Children and Youth

Our Sunday groups take a break over the summer and we’ll be thinking, planning and praying during that time about what church, and especially the children’s and youth groups, might be like in September.

I’d love to hear from children, young people and their families about what you have found helpful in the past few months and any ideas or suggestions that you might have for the future. You can contact me at childrenandyouth@andysonline.org

Sudan Appeal

Bishop Nick writes:
The coronavirus pandemic has caused massive disruption across the globe, including here in England. We need no reminder of the costs of this. Imagine, then, the impact on a country such as Sudan. Our brothers and sisters in our link dioceses there have no recourse to support for very basic needs other than external agencies. Their situation is more than challenging as the Church, under the leadership of Archbishop Ezekiel (with whom I speak frequently), seeks to feed the increasing number of poor, dispossessed and desperate people. The pandemic has led to rapid increase in unemployment and rampant inflation, pushing the purchase of even basic food beyond the reach of many people.
We have been linked with Sudan for around forty years. So, I am launching an emergency appeal right cross the Diocese of Leeds to support our brothers and sisters there. We are asking, on behalf of Archbishop Ezekiel, for funds for emergency food and supplies for those across the country who rely on the church for support or survival. The need is urgent and is increasing in severity.

Rhythm of Life

“As Christians, we believe Jesus should be at the heart of our rhythms of life, whatever our circumstances. This will have a far-reaching impact on our own wellbeing and the good of others – on our loving, living and learning.

I would like to invite you to join the diocesan ‘Rhythm of Life’ venture. This will involve individual commitments, accessing resources and mutual support. Some key areas will be given special attention: praying, encouraging, sharing, reflecting, celebrating, resting and creating.”

This Weeks Prayer Points

Prayer Points:

Belarus: Pray for all who are unhappy with the outcome of the recent election. Many protestors have been arrested and imprisoned and the main contender has fled to Lithuania having had her children’s lives threatened. Remember Christians . Any sanctions by the International community would probably result in closer ties with Russia.

Hong Kong: China has taken action to stop any freedom of the press. Continue to pray for the people, and especially the churches. Remember also Christians who are persecuted in mainland China.

Syria/Libya/Yemen/S.Sudan: pray for peace, as fighting continues and many in Syria and Yemen and S.Sudan face starvation. Remember Christians in all these places.

E. Africa: Give thanks that in Kenya at least, the locust swarms have largely been eradicated, however this is not the case in Ethiopia and a number of other countries.

Lebanon and International Y.F.C: Pray for all who continue to suffer following the blast last week which destroyed the port in Beirut. Migrant workers are particularly vulnerable. Give thanks for the work being done by Y.F.C. with young volunteers helping to clean the streets and feed people in need. Give thanks that Martin was able to facilitate translation into Arabic of teaching on trauma counselling. Pray for him as he prepares video material over the next few weeks which will be used in a staff conference in September.

India: Continue prayers for Janaki’s safety as corona cases continue to escalate. Pray for all who are bereaved or ill.

Brazil/Mexico: here too, the virus has taken many lives. Pray for all doctors and other medical staff.

Switzerland/Belgium: Pray for the Prices as their move draws closer. Pray especially for Nathan as he will have to settle into a new nursery and home. Pray about the practical arrangements of  the move.

Canaries: Pray for healing for Paula who has an on-going health issue. Pray also for her and Jo to be able to travel to the U.K., Israel and Russia. She also asks for prayer for those she is discipling that they grow in their faith.

S.Africa: Pray for Jerome and Ghila’s work with a soup kitchen , also for the Nobbs family and their outreach with local people and the online ministry.

B.Y.F.C: Pray that the O’Boyles will be able to have a break at the end of the month. Pray for an opening for Lucy, as her placement with Y.W.A.M. Mexico cannot now go ahead. Pray for Grace, who is applying for a job in youth ministry with a church, and for Jake to get his work permit.

U.K: Pray for all young people waiting for assessment results which will affect entrance to university. Ask for wisdom for the government over the increased number of migrants trying to cross the channel, and pray for a just solution to this problem. Each one is precious to the Lord.

Local: Pray for those mourning the loss of loved ones. Remember Janet and David following the loss of Bernard, Caroline and family who have lost her dad, and Paul who has lost Jacquie. Pray for others who are ill and those who are caring for them. Pray for Phil and his family to have good rest next week. Pray that although we cannot meet together as the church, we will remain connected to each other and to the community.

Thanks,  Tina
